We're definitely working through ways to filter locations based on things like this, so thanks for the great input, and keep your eyes open for some version in future app updates!

LOL. We didn't delete your account, not at all. We obviously hope people won't create fake spots just to get icons, but we realize that it can and does happen. We're more relying on the community and social aspect of the game to help you use the service in a manner that, well, involves less creation of fake spots.

We do keep an eye on things like that, whether someone is make loads of fake spots or is being reported on Twitter or here as making dupes or bad spots. But we have a huge stockroom of kid gloves, so to speak, and wouldn't zap anyone's account without trying to touch base about the overall useage of the app.

So thanks for the heads-up, keep rocking Gowalla all, and, in the words of Jiminey Cricket: Always let your conscience be your guide!

Oh, idea on your account issue: Go to iPhone / Settings / Gowalla and re-enter your username and password.

And so we are (working on it)! It probably did have something to do with the weirdness of pre-populating just a couple of items, of which most are in SF or Austin.
