Practical example of why this would be useful:
I *just* found out that aldamiz is someone that i've met before. I couldn't tell from the photo and I only guessed that they were a strands employee since that's where most of the people that I don't know are from on strands currently.
Perhaps a zoom function on the photo would be nice too?

Feedback coming here?It might help to link to this page from within the application (the feedback link perhaps?). I'd love to hear thoughts from other people who aren't aware that this page exists.

Blogs != Microblogs/NotesSorry to keep posting here, but I really like to give my feedback to services I care about.
I feel like there's an important distinction between Blogs and Microblogs. There are several people who I already follow on twitter or whatever else and just want to see their posts from their blog.
If I turn off Blogs & Notes then i'm taking away everything, when I really just want to take off their microblogs/notes.
Is there a possibility that we can split those into separate groups? What do others think about this issue?

Turn off specific services from everyone? As I use Strands more and more I find that I really would like a way to turn off everyone's music or everyone's twitter. Is there any way to do this now? If not, do you think we'll see a feature like this sometime in the future?
A comment on the idea "Can we have a bio field?" in Strands:
Both would be great actually. Sometimes I don't realize my friends are on certain sites.
The bio box is really helpful for realizing who people are. For instance, if I have a ton of followers, I may not want to add more without knowing who they are. Perhaps I didn't realize who they are from their picture or screen name.
Just an idea to think about :) – Josh Pyles, on June 02, 2008 16:04

Can we have a bio field? It seems like there should be a way to write a little blurb about yourself to be displayed on your profile ala Twitter.
I keep getting people adding me on Strands and i'm wondering who these people are! It would be nice to see a little bit of info about people and a link to their site.

Items sticking to the top of my dashboardWhy does my blog feed item stay at the top of my dashboard when there are lots of items that are newer? I haven't updated the post or anything...

Josh Pyles reported a problem in Strands on May 30, 2008 06:17:
Filtering out specific servicesI can't find a way to turn off specific services for people. Because Twitter is in the category of Blogs and Notes if I turn off someone's blogs and notes then I don't see their meaningful information.

Location-based friend findingStrands seems like it needs a way to find people near you. It's hard to filter out and find people right now.
We also need a Strands area in here for the new service!-

Better body typeface? This could just be my opinion, but i'm finding the typeface chosen for both books a little hard on the eyes. It's hard to describe what's bothering me about it. The best thing I can come up with is that it feels a bit "thin". It may just be the way the type looks when printed on the particular paper, but I might suggest looking at a couple other typefaces for future books.
Does anyone else have an opinion on this matter? Am I just crazy?
Great work on the quality content so far. I look forward to future publications!
Dan Rubin's reply to "Where is the iPhone-friendly version?" was just promoted to the most useful! Josh Pyles and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Looking forward to it as well - suggestion: instead of doing a specific iPhone site and dealing with device detection, why not create a mobile site and provide an iPhone-specific stylesheet? For reference, see http://mymilemarker.com/m
That also allows you to use a single URI for mobile devices, rather than being platform- or browser-specific (e.g. http://m.brightkite.com/ would work nicely).
Having fun with Brightkite so far, now I just need to get more people in South Florida to use it...
Josh Pyles replied on April 29, 2008 05:47 to the idea "Automatic Check-ins == You Win" in Brightkite:
This is possible on iPhone when the SDK is released, but not before. There are also privacy implications. It would need to ask before checking in, unless you had trusted places or something. The other holdup is, the iPhone Google Maps location is not always perfectly accurate. It's pretty close, usually down to a few blocks, but not exact. This could lead to problems as half of the coolness is seeing if people are in the same place as you.

Josh Pyles replied on April 28, 2008 17:01 to the idea "Make Twitter friend requests easier" in Brightkite:
I had quite a few local friends on Twitter and it took quite a few clicks to get them all in. Plus, when you finish adding someone it takes a second to refresh the list and this confused me a few times because i'd click other people to add them and it would refresh, voiding my click.
At the minimum, you could make it so it doesn't refresh like that and all the controls are set inline rather than a lightbox to create a smoother flow.
