kaprikawn reported a problem in Songbird on October 31, 2009 20:22:
m3u playlist adding duplicates due to capitalization on file locationWhen I do a 'Scan For Media', when it adds the tracks, it does so with a completely lowercase path in the location. I have some .m3u playlists which I've also added. These were created in Media Monkey, the files have relative paths, and contain the correct case as per the file they're pointing to.
When I add the .m3u playlists to Songbird, due to the differing capitalization, it recognises the references in the .m3u as different tracks, so adds them to my main library again producing many duplicates.
So I have two instances of the track in my library, one with the correct capitilization from the .m3u playlist, one completely lowercase from what Songbird added.
Is there anyway around this? My music is on a fileserver which I access using multiple computers using both Linux and Windows. That is why I use .m3u playlists with relative filepaths, I want one set of playlists for all my computers. So messing around with. or using alternatives to, my playlists isn't really an option. If I can't find an appropriate solution I'll just use a different player.

If this were implemented I'd strongly consider using Songbird as my primary media player. I currently have all my music on a server machine (using Samba, running Ubuntu OS). My current solution is to have .m3u playlists in my music directory. These are created using MediaMonkey on my Vista machine and are usable by the various Linux-based machines on my network whenever I use a different computer. MediaMonkey is just a lot better at handling this type of setup at the moment as far as I can see. If Songbird could implement a better solution I'd install Songbird on all the machines on my network and use that instead.-
