Chris Liscio replied on December 24, 2009 00:25 to the question "Difference between minimum phase and non-minimum phase RT plots" in SuperMegaUltraGroovy:
Edgar,
Anything below zero in the reverb measurements should be considered zero, and the RT fitting operation failed for that band. This happens when there is insufficient SNR in that band.
Beyond that, though, the measurements look good to me. The differences in the waterfall are basically the elimination of the initial delay period in the impulse when you make the minimum phase copy.
Does this answer your question?
Chris Liscio replied on December 24, 2009 00:23 to the question "Something screwy with my room measurements" in SuperMegaUltraGroovy:
You should try a loopback measurement (1/4" cable from output -> input) and see how that works. Once you get that working, you can proceed.
Check out the Getting Started guide for some basic info about setting all this up:

I'm not aware of any working turntables, at the moment. At one point I was in contact with one of the manufacturers, but have since lost touch.
If you can issue commands to the turntable from your Mac, then it may be possible to automate the process using Applescript. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a turntable to test it out myself—I'd be glad to try and help if you already have one.

Could you try the latest beta at http://supermegaultragroovy.com/produ... and let me know if the problem persists?
I fixed some serious smoothing issues (which were exposed by 10.6) in one of the recent 3.2 betas.

Generally I recommend you make all your measurements at full-range, no matter what you're playing the measurement through.
If you wish to limit the frequency range, you can do so in the inspector, and set Frequency start/end values there.
If you absolutely must limit the frequency range, you will have to increase the measurement length quite a bit to keep the SNR under control.
Generally speaking, the sweep works at its best when you don't modify the range of the sweep (i.e. 1Hz to nyquist).
If you stick with this guideline, you may notice your measurements are far more stable, in general.
Chris Liscio replied on December 08, 2009 21:02 to the question "Measuring low frequency response" in SuperMegaUltraGroovy:
Generally I'd advise measuring using the longest sweep you can tolerate. Leave it set to full-range, and start with 10s. Once you start getting repeatable results in the low-frequency area, you've got the right duration.
Longer sweeps result in a higher SNR for your measurements. Once the signal is far enough above the noise, you get the repeatable results you're after. Knowing what that threshold is depends on your room and your measurement equipment, so experimentation is key.

It describes how to set up Soundflower to record streaming audio for use with TapeDeck. I hope it helps!

Hi Joel,
Could you tell me the details about (a) the duration of the recording, and (b) what quality setting you used?
There's a known issue in Mac OS X 10.6 which causes trouble with HQ recordings of a certain duration. What you've experienced sounds like this problem.
The only workaround I can offer, until I confirm that a fix has been made, is to use MQ mode (which is still CD-quality, compressed similarly to iTunes music purchases) for your long, high-quality recordings.
As I said before: Apple is aware of this, and they are working on a fix. It doesn't just affect TapeDeck—it's a system-wide problem.

Martin, this is very odd. Could you try renaming the files to ensure that the extension is 'aif', and not 'AIF'? Make sure to use the Finder's Get Info window to do it, so you can ensure you get the right extension.
From that screenshot, it appears one of the files doesn't have the .aif extension, though it is recognized as an AIF file by the Finder. Perhaps there's a hidden extension there...
Let me know how it goes.
