Try downloading apps in iTunes. It will notify you if you need to upgrade iTunes or your firmware. Lots of sites have listings of free apps - see appshopper.com (no affiliation).

Command line "coda" utility for opening files

Smultron has a great feature - it installs a command-line utility "smultron". To edit my bash profile, I just type "smultron ~/.bash_profile" when on the command line.

It would be nice to be able to type "coda ~/.bash_profile" too! "open" doesn't always do the job right - especially if I want to create a new file, ie "coda new_file.txt".

One feature I'm really missing before I switch from Smultron, is the ability to show a page guide at column XX - I use column 80. Its good code etiquette to have short lines, and this really helps!

Hmm ... I definitely don't like the idea of a text editor inserting special (useless) markup into my code just to support its own features.

I think consistency across text editors is more important - in this regard coda should stay as it is. But I might use that plugin! When there is a lot of indentation some times I just resort to the mouse ...

I've used the PHP plugin and its a huge timesaver! Especially if your PHP script uses special headers or buffering - sometimes no output at all goes to the browser.
