In this particular case, I don't know what would have caused it. If you can give us a list of steps to reproduce the problem, we may be able to track it down. However, if it's not something that we can reproduce in-house, it's unlikely we'd be able to figure it out.
Glad you were able to get it working, though!

How did you add the files to the Songbird Library? Did you just drag them in, add them via File > Add to Library, or are you using a WatchFolder?
I have also heard it suggested in another thread (that I can't find at the moment) that the drive may have a power-saving mode in which it spins down when not being accessed. In order to check on this, I would browse some directory on the drive just before playing a track in Songbird to see if that works.
Hope that helps....

Running "./songbird -p" will launch the profile manager. You can then select which profile to use and launch Songbird with it. It is possible that one of the add-on updates has somehow corrupted it, though, and it may not launch successfully.
If you are able to get it running, I would recommend disabling your add-ons one-by-one to see if you can identify which one is causing the issue. Another alternative would be to launch Songbird in Safe Mode and disable all of them, restart in regular Songbird, and enable them one at a time to see which breaks.
Hope that helps!

Mari replied on December 18, 2009 01:31 to the question "Updating add-on for Songbird 1.4.1." in Songbird:
Hi simon -
Have you attempted to contact the developer of the add-on? If they haven't responded, here's a simple way to update the max version :
1) Download the current .xpi file, and change the extension to .zip.
2) Unzip/uncompress the add-on.
3) In the new directory, there will be a file called "install.rdf" - open it with a text editor.
4) Locate the max version parameter, change it to 1.4.1 (or 1.5.0a), save, and close.
5) Recompress the folder to create a new [add-on].zip file.
6) Change the .zip extension back to .xpi.
This is the best way to update it for yourself; if you're interested in making it available to others, post a note on the add-on's page.
Hope that helps!

hrm we haven't actually tried Songbird running on a BootCamp Windows, and while I would expect everything to be the same it's possible that there is some sort of fringe issue happening here.
If you downloaded it from getsongbird.com, it's version 1.2 (build 1146). ^_^ I would also guess that you downloaded the iPod add-on that came with that build - this should support the iPod classics.
Assuming that all the tracks you're transferring are mp3s, my next suggestion would be to create a new profile (instructions here), or downloading the current beta build.
Hopefully one of these will work... Please let me know! ^_^
Mari replied on December 18, 2009 01:15 to the question "Does Songbird work 100% with iPod classic? Bug-free?" in Songbird:
Hi Moloko -
What Andrew means by "sync" in this case is the ability to essentially mirror your iTunes library in Songbird, or vice versa. That way, you can use Songbird for all of the organization and playback you want to do. Then, when you want to actually move things to the iPod you only have to run iTunes for the 10 minutes it takes to transfer the tracks.
In answer to your original question, yes the iPod classic should still work with the new version of Songbird. Considering that the iPod add-on is now open-source and community-maintained, we cannot guarantee that it will work 100% and bug-free. Sorry!
Hope that helps....
Mari replied on December 17, 2009 22:41 to the question "Latest Version of Songbird still non-functional for large libraries" in Songbird:
Huh. It's so random that it took four tries... but I'm glad it finally worked! We do have issues reading over the network, especially with large amounts of data, so there may have been some random interference that was happening. (read: I really have no idea what may have caused it. -_^ )
Hope it continues working more smoothly now!

Hey Joe -
It definitely shouldn't take that long to import 10,000+ files.... it sounds like you might have a corrupted profile. The best thing I can recommend is to create a new one and re-run the import. Our in-house testing has clocked it at around 5 minutes, so 40,000 shouldn't take more than 25 minutes or so (though we haven't tried that many).
The only question I would have is, are the files on the same machine that's running Songbird? There are known latency issues with network and USB drives.
Hope that helps.

All -
There are several issues relating to new iPods; basically it boils down to Apple locking them down so that you have to use iTunes.
As for the specific issue of album artwork, I believe this should be working. Please check that the artwork is being written to the file's metadata.
Hope that helps!
