I saw that a Symbian app has been released. As I am a music addict and I still have an old Nokia N95 in the closet, I couldn't resist subscribing just to test out Spotify Mobile.
Its very good. The app looks great and is very nice to use. If only I could have this on my main WinMo phone :(
I can't carry around a second phone all the time just for Spotify, plus the battery life on the N95 sucks. So unfortunately I'll only keep my subscription for 1 month for the time being.
But now that I've seen your Symbian mobile app, all I can say is that you MUST add a WInMo app asap. C'mon guys - you now support Android, Symbian and iphone - there is one more missing piece ;)

First I read in the Squeezebox thread that an api may allow a Squeezebox plugin and now this? A possible WinMo solution in the works?
Damn, I really liked Spotify, but I gave up on waiting and went nuts and subscribed to 4 other music services (Last FM, Napster, RadioIO, Live365). Now I don't really want to spend any more on music services until they expire. If both Squeezebox and WinMo solutions do arrive before mid next year, then I'll be mad!

Really? Did you hear something? That vote is really old (April). Last I heard the Spotify API was not one that the Logitech/Slim guys could work with. – Mark D, on November 06, 2009 15:32

Thanks for the link MadMan. Its not an official Groovefish app (thats coming) but it works just fine on my WinMo phone. I'd never really heard of those guys before, but they also have a forum here on GetSatisfaction. Its interesting to see the very different attitude about mobile platforms betwwen Spotify & Groovefish. In the Groovefish forums someone asked about why there isn't a Symbian app and their response was: "That's coming too. If a platform is "smart" we're working on it. ;) ". I like that attitude! – Mark D, on October 21, 2009 15:03

According to someone I know, Microsoft are "definitely launching a Spotify-like music service". He tells me it was supposed to launch in 2009 but has been delayed until mid 2010.
This guy's company does some work for MS and in the past he has often been pretty accurate with his news on MS products and services. He thinks this service is going to be "way better than Zune Pass" and will work on lots of platforms not just on the Zune.
So I guess this service could give WInMo users another subscription music option to Spotify. But personally I wouldn't be interested in subscribing to either service unless it worked on my Squeezebox. I kinda doubt that MS will do that though :(

Guys, I think its time to stop complaining and move on. There is no need to get angry and complain here. The Spotify team are free to develop their product however they want. They are not obligated to develop for every platform.
It seems that Spotify is a product aimed at iphone users, because that is the device that they have developed an app for.
I have given up and subscribed to Napster. I have also subscribed to Last FM's premium service. I find that together these 2 services offer an excellent way to discover and listen to music. I am able to use these services with my 3 Squeezeboxes, my Windows Mobile phone (personal phone) and my Symbian phone (work phone). So now I have music everywhere I need it.
So if you are not an iphone user, its worth looking at the other options out there - there are a few :)

"I, and many others, have vast collections of music on the computer, wich we can stream to the livingroom stereo easily thanks to Squeezebox. We can sit in our sofa and browse our music without turning on a big LCD screen. It's so easy our parents can use it. And, in the case of Napster, even without turning on the computer... THIS is what we're looking for with Spotify. That would enable us to replace our music collection on the computer with a Spotify stream - but only if the convenient browsing etc works. Crippled solutions involving complicated computer frameworks and _the need to actually use the computer to listen to Spotify_ just doesn't cut it."
BINGO! Spot on Calle. This sums it up perfectly.
Look, I appreciate the efforts some have made on workarounds to get audio from Spotify playing through a Squeezebox. But in reality, I hardly use it, because I don't want to go upstairs, turn the computer on and browse using my keyboard and mouse. I want to sit on the sofa with my remote and connect to Squeezenetwork or directly to the Music stored on our NAS. The potential for Squeezebox + Spotify is huge. – Mark D, on September 21, 2009 01:49

I also run Squeezecenter on a NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS NV+). So I'd want to see a plugin that can be installed on that.
Alternatively, Spotify could be added to Squeezenetwork and we could connect our Squeezeboxes to Squeezenetwork to use Spotify.

I wish there was a solution for getting Spotify on to my Squeezebox without having to switch on a computer. Right now our Squeezebox connects to Squeezecenter running on a NAS box (ReadyNAS NV+), not a computer. Works great for listening to our collection or almost any internet stream. Unfortunately I very rarely listen to music while on the computer, but when I do, I have been trying Spotify. Its very good. I'm torn between wanting to sign up and waiting for a Squeezebox plugin.
I'm really blown away by how "instant" the listening experience is, it really is about the same as music stored locally. No other service feels that instant. I wonder how they do it?

Spotify + Squeezebox would be amazing. I'm a big streaming music fan. I subscribe to a couple of different services already. But I don't listen to music through my computer at all, I have 2 Squeezeboxes for that.
Spotify looks good, when it gets an official Squeezebox plugin, I'll definitely subscribe :)
Mark D replied on February 02, 2009 05:56 to the problem "Serious Problem: Huge .txt Error Log Generated" in Sprite Mobile:
Hi Adam,
No, didn't do any resend. Looking at the log some more - its big because its seems to be cumulative, each entry repeats all previous activity from 2009-01-20 22:45:48 and then adds some new activity to it. So each entry between "Start xml" and "end xml" gets progressively larger.
The worst part is that the log file is using up something called "Storage Memory" which is really limited. My Omnia has 16GB of memory (8GB internal storage - aka "My Storage", plus another 8GB storage card). Unfortunately though, the way this WinMob device works, it has something called "Storage Memory" which is limited to a max of 90.39MB and "Program Memory" to 97.27MB.
SMS and a lot of the phones functions can only use this "Storage Memory". I have no idea why but I assume its some stupid Windows Mobile legacy/limitation. Even without this VM log issue I have problems with this memory running low. Add in a huge log file and its not good at all. Right now I have only 4MB of "Storage Memory" left. The log file is sitting at 7.5MB - am about to delete it again now.
Even if you fix this log issue, I would further recommend giving users the option (if possible) of selecting where all of VM's cache/logs/etc are stored. On a device with 16GB, it seems silly to use up the paltry 90MB of "storage memory".

Serious Problem: Huge .txt Error Log GeneratedI think I've come across a big problem with VM on my Samsung Omnia. I have been getting "critically low memory" warnings on my phone. On investigation I have found a huge file in my temp directory called "aahttperrorlog.txt" of up to 15MB in size. I've just been deleting it. A couple of days later though, its back. I have been monitoring it and it starts out small and gradually grows with phone use.
If I open the txt file on my PC, it seems to show all my phone activity. Here is a small excerpt (i've put 'xxxx' next to client ID and phone numbers etc for privacy):

I have been manually deleting the log file every day or so. But only just got around to transferring one to my PC and reading the contents. From the looks of it I suspect its related to Virtual Mobile logging/sending.
Can you confirm this? Any fix?</add></events>

Blank Contacts Appearing On Web Portal Contacts ListSometime last week I logged in and noticed that I had several new contacts listed at the top of my contacts list. These were completely blank (ie no home or work details) and nameless (they are listed as "unknown").
Today I decided to delete all 17 of them from the VM website. After a couple of minutes they were back, but there are only 14 listings of "unknown" now.
I checked my Samsung Omnia and I have no blank or nameless contacts in my phone. So far luckily my phone is not affected by this bug.
I did add a new contact via the web portal last week. It worked great and was added to my phone. The blank contacts were there the next time I logged in. Timing could be coincidence but thought it was worth mentioning.
