A comment on the problem "Can I HTML?" in Brightkite:
We had fixed the comments so they don't do that anymore. Everything should be consistent now. :) – Lesley, on November 04, 2008 19:28

Thanks Lesley, that's much better. However, the articlehead link still goes to an unstyled XML file like http://brightkite.com/objects/d9b2513... for comments. Could you maybe chop off the "comments/xxxxx" part? The html page at http://brightkite.com/objects/d9b2513... is much more useful. Thanks again!

A comment on the question "Any way to update business addresses?" in Brightkite:
Usually I try to play around with different options like street name, intersections, zip code, etc. Sometimes I have to compromise and just use the zip with a custom label, which usually shows up as city, state [label]. It's not the most accurate option, but at least I'm able to display the label and city correctly. If you like, you can DM me the location and I can mess around with it. :) – Lesley, on September 30, 2008 21:21

Ok, I think I figured it out. There's no indication that a Placemark has already been created (possibly of the same name). Consider this:

I think the problem was that I was creating an alias that already exists -- and wasn't getting any indication that my change was successful.

I've had this problem for more than a month now, but just got around to reporting it. It definitely seems related to the placemark name. If I try to placemark <http://brightkite.com/places/87607678...> as "Rockville Metro Station", it fails. If I name it "r", it fails. If I name it "rr", it succeeds.-

Another user reported this problem this morning:

I have been unable to replicate the problem for creating a placemark. I tried making the placemark name the same as the label and it worked for me. I will continue to test this.

Can't create placemarks on iPhone web appI've had trouble creating placemarks using the iPhone web app. I think the problem only occurs when the placemark name is the same as the label.
Lesley replied on September 25, 2008 23:04 to the question "How to posts notes at moving locations?" in Brightkite:
One thing you could try is adding a label to your zip code, so your location is a bit broader and with your label people would see that you're on the bus. For example, on the website I entered:
20850 [Bus 191]
And this is what it looks like:
http://brightkite.com/places/6534d2ce...
The only catch is that you'll have to be in public mode in order for your labels to show up properly. If you're in private mode set to city, it won't show your label. But the nice thing is that it's such a broad level of accuracy your privacy won't be compromised if you post publicly.
Does that help some?
