I checked and the server issues were to blame, and it was my fault in the end. I had some bad rules set up in my .htaccess and when I started my new blog, I must not have deleted the file.
At any rate, the plugin does not work, but the FF extension does, and beautifully I may add. You can see the results at the link in my name.
I did not try to install it in anything other than WP 2.6, CURL is working fine as well.
My apologies for any confusion.

Well, good bugreports are always much better news than vague bugreports, so thank you!
We'll try to find out what is happening, but honestly we currently have no idea, since most people have no issues and we can't reproduce it.
Can you give us some more info:
Did it work with WP2.5.1 and stopped with 2.6?
Would it be possible that plugin on the server side isn't allowed to do a POST request to api.zemanta.com (firewall, etc)?
Could there be any reason why POST request could not be sent from the browser to your server with WP2.6?
Would it be possible that CURL library is missing on the server side (it should be part of every WP installation, but still...)?
Is it correct that FF extension works with the same WP2.6 installation, but the plug-in does not?
Do you have any uncommon url rewrite rules set on your server?
Thank you for your help in advance!

Oddly enough, when i reinstalled Wordpress for a second time and went with the browser plugin, everything was gravy. – James Nealon, on August 14, 2008 22:47

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just installed Wordpress 2.6, clean install and did not enable any plugins save for Zemanta and I am regrettfully having the same issue as Stephen.
I checked the DOM error log in FF 3 for Ubuntu and saw nothing at all that is connected with the plugin.
I am making absolutely sure it is not for some reason being blocked by the server, but as of now it just appears broken.

Trust us, we are even happier :)
So final resolution of this issue is: Customize plug-in for WordPress breaks other plugins and extensions and Zemanta is one of the affected ones. We can't do much about it, except advising to disable the Customize plugin.
Hope you like the new release also (LiveWriter plugin now available, CrunchBase integration, better Amazon books support).

I had the same problem but disabling the Firefox zemanta addon did the trick. It would be a good idea to solve this issue as I would still need the Zemanta addon in my Firefox browser.
I actually had to use the WordPress plugin as the FF plugin didn't want to work.
By the way, the error console in FF gave a few errors:

I have put this to the Wordpress.org forum and we'll see what there is to do. In my post http://pro.martinmcdowell.com/2008/07... I have discussed this issue and I believe that Bloggers labels should be converted to Wordpress's tags and not categories ans is the current practice. I don't think this is really Zemanta's problem as I think you used the correct correlation. The problem is with the Blogger->Wordpress importer.

Well we try to make best things according to platform. I understand the problem but it seems more of a problem of the tool that is converting then Zemanta as Blogger treats labels as tags.
If you give us a suggestion what we can do to improve the situation in your opinion/case, I'll gladly try to get that into our next versions as an improvement.

Discrepancy between Zemanta on Blogger and Zemanta on WordPress.orgDiscrepancy between Zemanta on Blogger and WordPress. I converted my posts in Blogger to Wordpress.org. Zemanta will give you suggestions for labels, however this is transfered as Categories in Wordpress.org and NOT tags. When you use Zemanta on Wordpress.org it wil give suggestions for tags and NOT labels.
I only found out recently ad it is confusing, to say nothing of making a mess out of my posts.
