quepol, you might want to check out Topify. They pack a lot more info in the New Follower email. – mdoeff, on May 19, 2009 04:55

Good idea. Hopefully Twitter will take a look at that. – mdoeff, on August 21, 2008 03:45-

A comment on the discussion "Account Deleted/banned with no reasoning" in Twitter:
I did a quick scan of your Twitter ID using Twitter search and I'm not surprised that you got banned. For future reference, repeatedly tweeting the URL of your web site is considered spam. http://search.twitter.com/search?q=ma... – mdoeff, on August 02, 2008 15:24-

Jason Goldman's reply to "How can I let someone to follow me but not vice versa?" was just promoted to the most useful! mdoeff and 6 other people think it's one of the best replies.
We finally got this fix out the door; it was amazingly tricky from a code management perspective because of the number of moving parts. And, of course, it kept getting pushed because of needed stability work.
Please let us know if you run into bugs with the new functionality. There are additional enhancements we wanted to make (like showing the number of follower/following counts for the requesting user) that had to be cut because of performance reasons. They're still on the list tho'.
Glad folks are happy about the change; thanks for hanging in there as we fixed it.-

mdoeff started following the question "I'm not a spammer, I've got a 1-to-1 ratio, Let me Follow People Back Please!!!" in Twitter.
mdoeff asked a question in Twitter on July 23, 2008 17:41:
Is the @spam account affiliated with Twitter? There is an account on Twitter called @spam (http://twitter.com/spam) that claims to be affiliated with Twitter Headquarters. A number of people are reporting spam to this Twitter Id - http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%4...
Can someone from Twitter confirm whether or not this is an "official" channel for reporting spam to Twitter support? I only bring this up because it seems to be misleading people (I've never heard Crystal or anyone else from Twitter mention @spam as a way of reporting spam). For all we know this could have been set up by a spammer who wants spam reports to disappear into the ether.
A comment on the question "What happens if I hit a Twitter limit?" in Twitter:
I have to agree that there are a lot of legitimate people getting flagged. Shouldn't the obvious spammers be the target? Crystal & Jason - are you guys looking at tweaking whatever formula that you guys are using to prevent the good people from getting caught up in this? – mdoeff, on July 22, 2008 21:08-
