Okay, so I discovered that this is an Auto Authorize problem, I think. Can you tell me if Auto Authorize means for all Zones a user has access to even if they only have access in a limited way? That is how it appears to me.
This is a problem... I need the user to be able to submit bulletins to their zone, and have them auto authorize, and then be able to submit bulletins to other zones and not have them auto authorize.
Any suggestions here?

Permissions Question about "Create - Submit Bulletins to this Zone"Hi. I want some users to be able to submit bulletins to other zones, but it is important that those bulletins that are submitted not auto publish. I've created an account with limited permissions, and I thought that it was working, but people are submitting bulletins to zones and somehow jumping the approval step. I believe they are copying already approved bulletins to other zones, which is not what I want.
Will "Create - Submit Bulletins to this Zone" allow users to auto publish? Is that just built into this permission? If it is, I think you should rethink that feature.

megan replied on August 07, 2009 17:30 to the question "Carousel Account Permissions for setting up zones" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Jesse/John,
Jesse, That is what I am doing also. I give users permissions for zones, which is fine for most users. But some of our departments on campus are EXTREMELY tech savvy and they should have total control over there channel, so they can do testing, design, and redesign whenever they like without having me as an obstacle. The way we are using the system departments on campus are purchasing channels and they can choose to share content if they want, have the campus-wide design, or have their own. Also I don't dictate what the content is, or who has access.
If I could give admin privileges for a specific channel, then tech savvy departments (in this case CalIT2) could determine their own permissions settings for their channel as well as determine their own zone settings. For them this would be especially useful sense they are trying to test the interactivity functions of the software which is very different from they way that other departments are using their signage.
Also, it is a real headache for me to have to set up numerous accounts for a large number of departments. The idea of using one account for a group of people is unrealistic because it is important to identify who-specifically created a bulletin. (I'm grumbling about this, but I supposes that if you did have this feature, then I would have to teach everyone how to set up accounts, so I'm not sure that is any easier.) = )
John, it would be nice if you could build a little more control into Carousel to make this fine-grained control of channels possible. Maybe it wouldn't be for all users, but only in special cases.
Thanks for the information.

A suggestion here. I think you really need to spell out more clearly in your manual, or somewhere, what the various setting for RSS feeds do. Do you already have this somewhere? The difference between bulletins, items, and max items... If the RSS feed is long, how do I stop it from going through several screens of the same item? Too many variable for this to be super obvious.
Thanks,

Broadcasting Carousel via a RG6 network?? HELPDear John, JJ, broadcast techs,
One of our customers has existing displays with built in ATSC tuners and we would like to know if a player exist to broadcast via an RG6 network a modulated HD signal to channel 3.1 on each display?
If I could get some feedback on this it would be very helpful. If you have more questions about this could you call Ernie our AV Engineer at 858-354-8498.
Thanks,

John, When I set the role to "Submit to this zone" it would be helpful if the person could then at least see a preview of the zone. Right not the user can go to the zone, but there are no options. Nothing. Just a blank screen.
Is this my mistake, or is this just the way it is? Thanks, Megan
PS Good idea above, except that is the username, I think, and then people would have to enter (Parking) each time they logged on... Right?

John Reilly is Totally Rad!Thanks for all you assistance John! I'm very excited about what we are doing with Carousel at UCSD. RSS feeds are such a great way to share information.

megan replied on July 22, 2009 17:12 to the question "RSS Items Text Missing" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hi John, Yes, this helps... It just seems that there is a lot of guess work involved. it is hard to tell how text will look on the sign while setting up the RSS feed. It's frustrating, because the only way I can really tell what things will look like, is to wait for the bulletin to come up. It is very tedious. What would be nice is if there was some way to get a more accurate preview.
Also, when I set the character limit, do I want the auto size off?
Thanks,
Megan

Okay, back to this issue. I think your auto size feature is totally useless. I need some way to get the first sentence OR a specified # of characters to resize to fit into the #ItemDescription# block. I already have auto size and wrap turned on but it's not doing it. Can someone advice? It really seems as though auto size is not functioning.
Thanks,
Megan

Hi John, Okay. I've actually already done this very thing. Different areas of the Library can create bulletins for other areas, but they have to be approved. This is also what I was planning to do for Parking. I forgot that the owner of the bulletin is listed. The only thing is, that the way I have set it up, it is by their name, and this is a giant campus, so people may not know who Joe Smith is and what area he works for...
This is getting very complicated, with all of our various users wanting to share content, with various levels of approval necessary, but it's great!
Thanks,
Megan
megan shared an idea in Tightrope Media Systems on July 21, 2009 16:17:
Add a notes box to bulletins to indicate who made themI thought I saw this idea somewhere, but now I can't find it. I need bulletins to be identified with the user that created them, or more specifically, the channel that the bulletin is coming from. For instance, if users of UCSD's parking channel request that UCSD's Library channel publish a bulletin for them, I'm sure the Library people would like to know who specifically is making the request and what channel(s) they represent. It might also be helpful if there were some way for the Parking people to leave details about the bulletin, for instance "Can you please play this bulletin from July 1-8? Thank you, The Parking Office." In fact, the solution could be that simple, just a notes box.
Thanks,
Megan
