Amir, This seemed to work since your last comment, but today a plurk from someone I had marked as "unfollow" showed up on my timeline. I went back in the timeline and found one other plurk from here, but she doesnt' post very often so I don't know if this just started or has been going on for awhile. I marked her "follow" then "unfollow" again, and it looks like her plurks disappeared from my timeline. I have a few other friends who are marked "unfollow" and I'm pretty sure they don't show up on the timeline.
I can send you an email listing the plurkers I've unfollowed, if that helps.

Thank you! I just re-unfollowed any that were still showing up, and so far they're staying off my timeline! (Wish we had the dancing banana on here.) :) – Teeg, on July 24, 2008 13:31

With the help of the great community, this bug is now fixed. Thanks for those that emailed me.
In the future: you just unfollow a friend to unfollow this person.
If you have some friends, that are unfollowed, but you still receive plurks from them, then do following: Go to their profile page, follow them and then unfollow them (this will reset the following).
Hope it works this time.

This bug really bugs us as we can't reproduce it.
If someone can mail me (amix at amix.dk) with information on what user you are trying to unfollow (nick name) and a description on what you try (how to reproduce the bug).
I will gladly look into it as it's a frustrating issue for us as well.
Kind regards,
Amir

A comment on the idea "Explain karma loss or gain." in Plurk:
With respect, that's nonsense. If everybody knows the algorithm then it will be a level playing field. People will have the ability to post based on knowledge, as opposed to speculation (the current situation) and will not be penalized by what they don't know (the current situation). What could possibly be wrong with that? As for social interaction, social people will interact in ways that they want to regardless of what's going on with karma. None of the "crap" posts deters me from using cliques to target serious discussions or from initiating them on my public timeline. – Greg Fowler, on July 18, 2008 21:52

Please tell how publishing the karma algorithm would expose Plurk to abuse? Continued secrecy will allow people who know the algorithm to capitalize on their secret knowledge to the detriment of the rest of us. Maybe you're one of the one's "in the know"? – Greg Fowler, on July 18, 2008 21:47

Darthweef, if they cannot prevent that with an open algorithm, then they should not have implemented a karma system in the first place. It needs to be open and well defined to avoid frustration with the system as it currently is. Or hell, even if not open, it needs to -explain- why you just lost .9 karma (not enough plurking) or, XXXX stopped following you, or XXXX muted a plurk, etc.

I agree, keeping things secure by not letting people know how it works, isn't the best way of doing things... some small secrets here and there are okay, but keeping the entire system secret is a nono. – akiraokami, on July 18, 2008 21:05

like jay, i also have removed some friends just because this bug still exists, and now i see one person still in my timeline who is not a friend. STRANGER IN MY TIMELINE. this is ridiculous.
i would agree if they say if i'm not willing to follow them then why add them as friend, but then WHY make a follow/unfollow option on friends? this is about a broken feature!
