I had this same problem and got around it in this manner.
I coped all the data and applications and preferences to a firewire drive. I then turned the drive off and Formatted my startup drive and installed Office 2008.

I then copied everything back from the firewire drive. I now had Office 2008 working and Office 2004 working. I have been using Office 2008 applications with success to date but Entourage 2008 is unable to import my data, contacts and emails from Entourage 2004.

So I'm stuck using Entourage 2004 for email. I hoping someone with more knowledge that me can offer a fix or solution as I cannot afford to lose my accumulated emails and contacts.
