A comment on the question "When will we have an iPhone client?" in Spotify:
If accurate, this is absolutely fantastic news! – Nathan Massey, on August 27, 2009 18:21
A comment on the idea "Apple should allow for app's to run in the background on the iPhone." in Apple:
Yeah I had a quick search for 'background app' topic on here, but was quite surprised not to find one.
I think the main issue with this for Apple is the impact on battery life. Apple needs to invest in some kind of new battery tech, or make the iPhone much more energy efficient. – Nathan Massey, on August 27, 2009 18:03
Nathan Massey replied on August 27, 2009 12:52 to the question "Does any part of the O2 3G (HSDPA) network run at 7.2Mbps?" in O2:
Well here's yet another reason for me to switch to Vodafone.
Vodafone bumps up mobile broadband speeds
Vodafone now moving to a 14.4Mbps network, and as far as I can find out, O2 are still at 3.6Mbps? An answer to my original question would be nice O2!

Apple should add 'Push Notification/SMS' style alerts to Mail.app on the iPhone. One thing that bugs me about the iPhone, is that when you get a email, all that happens is the badge icon for Mail.app is updated.
It would be great if you had the option of a alert popping up on screen (like when you get a SMS message or Push Notification) that shows you the subject of the email, you sent it to you and the first few line of the email itself. You could then also have the unlock 'swiper' change to 'swipe to view' like it does for SMS messages, so when you swipe it, Mail.app opens and shows you the new email in full.
This would save me having to unlock my iPhone, open Mail.app and open the email if I want to see what it is. Using a alert like I described, it would be a matter of just taking the iPhone out of my pocket, and looking at the screen.

Apple should allow for app's to run in the background on the iPhone.Although the push notifications introduced with firmware 3.0 is great, certain app's would benefit from being able to run in the background. App's like TomTom (so you can still hear navigation instruction while on a call), Last.fm/Spotify (so you can listen to music while doing other stuff on the iPhone) and Skype (maybe a daemon that waits for incoming calls?) would all benefit from background support.
Maybe you could have a system in a future firmware update where you can run any app in the background, but you can only run say 3 apps at a time. Maybe you could have a glow around the icon of a running app to tell the user it is running?-

A comment on the question "When will we have an iPhone client?" in Spotify:
I'll be really disappointed with Apple if they don't approve it. The idea of the App Store was to keep out malicious software, not innovative, potentially competitive software.
Personally, I think they will approve it, the backlash from the Google Talk rejection isn't something Apple will want to go through again. – Nathan Massey, on August 27, 2009 11:25

libdems.org.uk needs a section where you can easily find out Liberal Democrat policies on key subject area.I've just gone onto the Lib Dem website to try and find some information about policies regarding technology/file sharing and found it really difficult to find any information at all.
There needs to be a section where you can easily find the Lib Dem policy on key areas (transport, economy, technology etc) that is easy to read (i.e not an entire policy paper), and is well presented.

Yelp should let users change the position of business markers on the map to make them more accurate.I think it would be useful if Yelp let users move the map markers for businesses to make them more accurate.
A system similar to the one used by Google Maps where users can change the position of a marker within 50m of it's original position would be perfect.
It would also be useful to have the satellite map view on Yelp so that users can accurately position markers (e.g. over the main entrance to a business).
Nathan Massey shared an idea in Yelp on August 26, 2009 17:43:
Yelp needs a way of reporting incorrect business listings.I've noticed a lot of businesses in my area have the wrong details, don't exist, or are located on the map miles away from where they should be. Yelp needs some kind of mechanism for reporting incorrect business data.
Nathan Massey shared an idea in Yelp on August 26, 2009 17:40:
When clicking on a marker on the search map, the map should just refocus like Google Maps. The map on the search page should work more like Google Maps. I find it really annoying that as soon as you click on a marker, you are taken to the businesses' page.
I think it would be better if the map just refocussed with the marker in the center of the map, then when you click on it a second time, you are taken to the business page.

Yelp should add Facebook Connect to it's service. One of the big problems for online reviews generally, is that you can't be sure if the review is from a real person, or the company itself.
If Yelp added Facebook Connect to it's site, users could link their Facebook accounts with their Yelp accounts, which means that other people would be able to see that the review is from a real person.
It would also mean that new users to the site could use their existing Facebook ID to login, rather than creating another account.

Nathan Massey shared an idea in Channel4.com on August 25, 2009 22:49:
Channel 4 should center their whole website, not just the homepage. If you go to channel4.com, you'll notice that the page itself is centered in the browser window, but if you then go to any other page on the website, the page shifts over to the left. I think it would be better if the whole site aligned to the center.
Nathan Massey reported a problem in Channel4.com on August 25, 2009 22:38:
If you open a program on 4oD in a pop-out window, and get asked to confirm your age/PIN, the pop-out window doesn't resize properly. If you try to open a episode in a pop-out window on 4oD, and you get asked to enter a PIN or confirm your age before the pop-out launches, the resulting pop-out window is just a normal browser window (large size with address bar etc) with the video in the top-left corner, not the usual small window that fits the video perfectly (without the bookmarks/address bars).
This happens when using Safari 4.0.3 on OS X 10.5.8.
