notwist shared an idea in Spotify on May 24, 2009 09:07:
Minimal player mode for when you've already chosen a playlistiTunes has a feature to turn the program into a "mini player" (iTunes is still bloated as hell though), this would be awesome if it could also be done with Spotify. For example, when I've chosen a playlist and just want to be able to switch back and forth between tracks.
Perhaps it could also be done so that the minimal player takes less resources. That would be awesome. And ofcourse, you could still display ads by making the player the same size as a banner or something.
I hope you get my idea and that you think about implementing it.
A comment on the idea "Give users the option to change their user name or merge accounts" in Last.fm:
This is essentially what I meant when I said in the post below that they should make the nickname a variable. However, I think it would be good to also make sure that people could change their login name, or perhaps use the e-mail as login instead and make the nickname changeable like you mentioned. – notwist, on April 21, 2009 19:27
notwist reported a problem in Spotify on April 11, 2009 14:32:
Why does spotify stop fetching songs after just one song?I'm running Spotify in Easy Peasy (based on and essentially the same as Ubuntu 8.10) through wine (latest version). When I start a song in Spotify, the song plays about 3/4 and then stops. If I try to start another song, the cover art comes up fine but the song doesn't start. The weird thing is that even if I only listen to the first song a couple of seconds, it still refuses to change to another song, so there's essentially a "one song limit".
The only way to fix this is to restart Spotify, then you can play 3/4 of any song you want until you have to restart again :)
Another problem that might be unrelated is that the progress bar for the song at the bottom "jumps" back and forward in the end as the point moves to show where in the song you are. This might be a Wine issue and is purely cosmetical.

Mateusz; ofcourse it's not impossible, do you know nothing of website building? It is, however, quite probably a lot of work involved, which might be the reason they haven't implemented it.
inh: there's several ways you could solve broken links, either you could make the links variables (the nicknames for everyone mentioned on a page is 'fetched' every time the page is loaded) or you could run a script site-wide to look for the specific nickname and change it.
To resolve both these problems, a lot of manhours needed and quite possibly a lot of server work, you could make it a minor pay service.

Very likely, yes. – notwist, on March 31, 2009 13:13

Turning off the monitor doesn't seem like a very effective way of stopping people from changing the music... – notwist, on March 27, 2009 19:21

Give the option to write fetched cover art to the fileI love the function to right click a song and choose "Get Album Artwork", but perhaps it would be nice to also get the function to actually embed the fetched picture into the mp3 file, I have a feeling this isn't being done now.
The size difference can be quite dramatic on a large number of files so maybe a popup window explaining the size change would also be good. I think that this type of embedded cover art is a must if it's to work on an iPod for example.
A comment on the idea "Give users the option to change their user name or merge accounts" in Last.fm:
Do you think that might be the reason that I posted this under _ideas_? I know that it is not possible right now, but that is because that the function isn't implemented, it's not because it's impossible. – notwist, on February 08, 2009 21:59

notwist gave praise in Google Reader on January 28, 2009 12:16:
Google is the benevolent dictator of the intertubesI can't begin to say how much the google services has made my life easier. I use gmail for storing my school work and I've been loving it for years, I list my university classes in google calendar with SMS reminders every morning (no more looking up what room I'm going to!), I write my papers on google docs (no more crashing!), I use Reader to follow all my feeds (it's far superior) and I occasionally use notebook (sad that you closed it) for saving quotes and bits of code that might come in handy later.
All and all, I love Google and all of the services you offer. You guys really know how to make stuff intuitive and great.

You could still put it up as a suggestion for improvement since it seems odd that a company executive is not able to create accounts that can be managed together. You would probably be able to get a lot more company customers this way. – notwist, on January 28, 2009 11:55

Give users the option to change their user name or merge accountsI have an old last.fm account that I forgot the password to. Even if merging the accounts would be a function that might take too much work, atleast create a function so that you can change your username. That way one could technically ask for the old account to be deleted and rename the new one.
It shouldn't be that hard, right?
