I really think you guys need to increase the radius that you will allow people to move venues to fix these. It's not like I'm trying to move it across the country or something...just a couple miles.
I just started using Gowalla yesterday and there's already 2 places of the 8 I've added which I can't correct. I hope the success rate gets better.
A comment on the problem "No points after searching for a venue? Not fair!" in foursquare:
...and the address of the mall is on Route 9...so if you're in the new part on the far end you may be too far from the physical address to check in for points! *gasp* Yes, it's THAT big! :) – PDelahanty, on December 25, 2009 05:34-

PDelahanty reported a problem in foursquare on December 24, 2009 18:40:
No points after searching for a venue? Not fair!I have an original iPhone and the pseudo-GPS is not the best...especially while I'm in Maine. Last night I tried to check into The Blue Stool (a "Boston" venue which is actually just north of Portland, ME) and didn't see it on the venue list, so I did a search and found it and checked in. I didn't get a point for checking in (even though it was well after the 4pm magic hour.)
I've seen this happen before...when I was at the Natick Collection last week and actually had to search for "Natick Collection" even though I was standing in the middle. Perhaps there were too many individual stores listed for that to make it on the list? I'm not sure if it legitimately didn't think I was close or if there were just too many to list there. Dennis, while you're in the area you should go check it out. ;)
Anyway, am I being penalized because my GPS is somewhat unreliable? If I have to search, do I get penalized and not get points because I searched?
I've attached a screenshot of where Google Maps thinks I was, where the venue is (correctly) located in Foursquare, and a line comparing the two. I was clearly within the Google Maps margin of error (although nowhere near the center). I should not be penalized just because my phone was not precise enough.
You guys need to increase the radius for giving points (at least for original iPhone users)...and not strip away points because someone went and actually did a search for a venue rather than going and creating a duplicate.
I can't express in words how much this annoyed me last night. (So much that I didn't even want to deal with entering a ticket until now.)

Place was created in the wrong location, too far to be moved by meThe Blue Stool is at the wrong location and I cannot move the pin to the correct location because it's too far. (I blame my original iPhone for screwing that up and thinking it was somewhere else when I added the venue.)

A comment on the question "Reporting User abusing system/ruining User Interaction" in foursquare:
Is the check-in system in place now or is it still in progress? ...because I did some legitimate check-ins yesterday and didn't see any points for those. (I'm not overly concerned about points, but don't want to be labeled as a cheater when I'm not cheating.)
Maybe my original iPhone's terrible fake GPS is to blame? – PDelahanty, on December 19, 2009 19:01

A comment on the idea "Style guide for superusers" in foursquare:
I completely agree with Greg above. Having a default city name is definitely causing trouble here in Boston. I've seen some places listed as Boston when they're supposed to be in a suburb. People are LAZY!
We also have some venues close together on the same street. I can think of one town where there are literally McDonald's on opposite sides of the street from each other. If I looked and only saw "McDonald's" and the street name, I wouldn't necessarily know which one was correct.
It's also a problem on places like Route 1 north of Boston where there are a lot of businesses crammed together. Is that Starbucks on Route 1 the one I'm at in Saugus or is it the one down the road in Danvers? It's IMPOSSIBLE to tell on the iPhone app since they do not display the down name and only the street address.
For the love of God, DISPLAY THE TOWN NAME! You already have it in the system!!! – PDelahanty, on December 19, 2009 18:56

A comment on the idea "Style guide for superusers" in foursquare:
The Boston area has many small towns...some of which have highly populated areas right on the town line. If I see "Dunkin Donuts" and my only clue as to which one I want is the "Massachusetts Ave" address, that's no help...since Mass Ave runs through many towns and there's a Dunkin Donuts every 10 blocks. – PDelahanty, on December 17, 2009 20:11-
