Phil shared an idea in Feedly on October 13, 2008 17:05:
Topics sectionI notice that the topics page has graduated to the more menu, so I'll post a couple of comments about the selection of highlighted topics.
1. Today I have both "Paul Krugman" and "Krugman Wins" as distinct topics. There should be a way to subsume both these as Krugman.
2. I subscribe to a multi-author blog that titles each post, "[Title of post], by [Author]". As a result the authors' names are always on the topics page. I suggest increasing the degree to which the number of different sources for a keyword is factored into the topics ranking.

Ok. Here goes. And please note that I edited my reply, immediately above, to reflect my realization that both the feeds that are being used as examples come from the same content provider. It may be coincidence, but...
First screenshot of category page (h ttp://www.feedly.com/feedly#category/Morning%20Blogs).

Note that there are six unread articles from "The Corner", five listed in the side bar. Note also that there is an article from Campaign Spot which is not listed in the side bar.
From the error console:

[feedly][reader]unread count synchronization complete.
Then I click on The Corner's feed link to arrive at h ttp://www.feedly.com/feedly#preview/feed/http://corner.nationalreview.com/corner.xml.

FYI, this feed is from the same content provider as Campaign Spot, the one referenced in my other thread this morning. I'm not sure if there is any connection as my (possibly incorrect) recollection is that the problem occurred with a feed from another source as well.
From the error console when going from the category page to the feed page:
During the synchronization step the feed count is dropped back to one.

I now have a third unread article in the feed and the feed count is being changed to two.
Phil reported a problem in Feedly on October 07, 2008 17:15:
Side bar feed counts go off in 1.2.39I have pictures if my explanation is unclear.
I was on the category page. A feed showed one unread article in the right pane, however two unread article summaries were listed on the category page from this feed. I refreshed, but no change in the right pane count for this feed.
I then visited the feed and the unread article count was correct. I returned to the category page where the unread count was now correct in the right pane. However, very shortly afterwards the right pane feed count changed itself back to one unread, rather than the correct number, two.

Ok the problem has recurred. Here are two screen shots which may make the issue clearer. Note that the feed, Campaign Spot, from which comes the top article in the category view, is not listed in the right pane. Then notice the above mentioned issues with the feed view--no unread only box, both unread and read articles visible.
Phil replied on October 07, 2008 16:14 to the problem "Problem with 1.2.38" in Feedly:
Sorry for being unclear. I'll have to describe from memory, because as predicted the problem has cleared up.
I went to one of my category pages this morning. Although I saw summaries of a number of articles from different feeds, only two of the feeds with unread articles were listed with unread articles in the right-hand panes. There were three or four feeds that had unread article summaries on the category page despite not being listed in the right-hand pane.
Visiting the feeds with unread articles that weren't showing up in the right-hand panes didn't cure the problem, nor did refreshing them, nor did changing the category's view format, nor closing and reopening the feedly tab. I noticed while visiting the feed page that all articles--read and unread--were visible and the unread only check box was missing. The check box was still visible on other feeds. Also while this problem was in effect the new articles message showed up at the top of the category page and said "NaN new unread articles available".
I suspect that there was some inconsistency in the feedly or google reader data that feedly didn't handle well, causing the other problems. I see no problems now. Let me know if this is still unclear. I will report if I see the issue recur.
Phil reported a problem in Feedly on October 07, 2008 14:19:
Problem with 1.2.38Not all feeds with unread articles are being listed in the side panel. The unread articles do show on the category page.
When I visit one of these feeds, the unread check box is missing and unread articles show despite global configuration setting.
The feeds with the problem seem to be gradually reappearing in the side panel and when they do the other problems disappear as well, so this problem may be gone soon.-
