Nick Venturella set one of Dustin Olson's replies as an official response to "Gmail + Westhost - "sent on behalf of" problem" in WestHost
Nick Venturella posted an update in WestHost on November 12, 2009 03:53:
WestHost 4.0 with cPanel Launched for New ClientsWestHost just launched a new hosting platform! We are excited to offer cPanel to all new clients. Visit WestHost.com to view all of the specifications and features of our cPanel shared hosting plans. In addition, our new Managed Dedicated Servers have also received a serious increase in performance. All dedicated servers now contain at least 4 GB of memory and use Intel Xeon Quad Core processors.
All new clients immediately have access to Tera, our unified control panel, support, and billing system, providing a single, seamless interface for all hosting and domain registration services.
Existing clients will remain on the current WestHost 3.0 platform until we begin the migration process in the coming months. More information will be released once we approach the migration launch date for existing users.
Nick Venturella set one of Nick Venturella's replies as an official response to "site manager errors" in WestHost
Nick Venturella replied on October 07, 2009 00:10 to the problem "site manager errors" in WestHost:
This is a known issue. For best results, use the Mozilla Firefox web browser when accessing the Site Manager or the Server Manger.
In Internet Explorer 8, you need to enable the "Compatibility View" options from the Tools menu. Do not use Safari or Google Chrome to access the Site Manager or the Server Manager.

Nick Venturella replied on September 14, 2009 17:27 to the problem "Frequent maintenance / down-time" in WestHost:
I am sorry that you feel this way. We make every effort to provide reliable uptime and top-notch support. Our average wait time in Live Chat is 16 seconds, so perhaps you just caught us at an especially busy time.
All outages are listed online at http://netstatus.westhost.com/. We always send out e-mail announcements in advance for all scheduled server maintenance. For prolonged outages due to emergency/unexpected maintenance, we also send out a followup e-mail to explain the situation and its resolution. Without any specifics, I can't comment on why you haven't been receiving our notifications. Are you sure that the contact information you've provided to WestHost -- specifically your e-mail address -- is valid and is NOT and e-mail address at your own WestHost-hosted domain name (obviously you should use Gmail or some other external e-mail account as your contact information for your WestHost account)? You can visit https://corp2.westhost.com/account/ to update your contact information. Are your sure that the e-mails we send are not mistakenly arriving in your Spam or Junk Mail folder?
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our Technical Support department directly via phone, e-mail, or live chat and we can address your specific case.
Nick Venturella set one of Nick Venturella's replies as an official response to "Google Services for Websites GOOD!" in WestHost
Nick Venturella replied on August 24, 2009 21:33 to the idea "Google Services for Websites GOOD!" in WestHost:
At this time, we have no plans to implement Google's webmaster tools into our control panel. This doesn't make sense in the WestHost environment because our control panel doesn't restrict you to template-based web designs, so there's no effective way to implement this. In other words, since each web site is completely different and since we can't -- and shouldn't -- automatically add the code required for the Google services to client's web pages, there's little, if any value in doing this. For example, the Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics both require some customization of the web site coding on the webmaster's part (e.g., adding the user tracking code, or creating XML sitemaps).
These Google services and many others are already free and open to everyone, however, so please do make use of these excellent tools on your own web site.
Nick Venturella set one of Nick Venturella's replies as an official response to "email setup instructions are missing some steps" in WestHost
Nick Venturella replied on August 19, 2009 19:51 to the problem "email setup instructions are missing some steps" in WestHost:
Thank you for your feedback.
The "user@domain.com" format always works for incoming mail, whether you have POP, IMAP 1.0, or Dovecot IMAP as your mail server and whether you have a shared or dedicated IP address. Further, our server supports POP-before-SMTP, so if you are using POP e-mail (the default, as most clients are), then setting up the account without SMTP authentication will work in almost all cases.
You are correct, however, that you should be using SMTP authentication all the time, regardless of your mail server type, so you can guarantee that the SMTP server is able to authenticate you when sending outgoing mail. Again, as you've correctly noted, the SMTP server accepts only the "user@domain.com" format for accounts with shared IP addresses and accepts only the "user" format for accounts with dedicated IP addresses.
Nick Venturella replied on August 16, 2009 23:08 to the idea "keep virtual private server as is" in WestHost:
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to keep your existing VPS account exactly as-is after the WestHost 4.0 transition. Sometime in the future, all clients to either be migrated to our new WestHost 4.0 platform, which is shared hosting through cPanel, or to a true root VPS through our sister company, VPS.net. Existing WestHost clients are eligible for a discount on VPS.net service; contact the WestHost sales department for more information about this.
While we have no specific dates for the WestHost 4.0 transition yet, please rest assured that we will be sending out plenty of detailed information as soon as we finalize the WestHost 4.0 platform and have more information on the migration process. As a very rough estimate, we expect that migrations will begin sometime during the next 6 - 12 months and last approximately 6 months from the start date.
Nick Venturella replied on July 15, 2009 16:53 to the idea "Float images in "Message to your community"" in Get Satisfaction:
I have worked around this problem. Although the style attributes are stripped from the HTML entered into the "Message from your company" box, class attributes are not. Since the main CSS file for Get Satisfaction already has a class named "left" I just used < img class="left" ... > to get my image to float properly. Problem solved!

Nick Venturella set one of Nick Venturella's replies as an official response to "How do I forward my WestHost e-mail address to my Yahoo Mail account?" in WestHost
Nick Venturella replied on July 14, 2009 01:39 to the question "How do I forward my WestHost e-mail address to my Yahoo Mail account?" in WestHost:
The short answer is: You don't! :-)
But fear not, because Yahoo's Mail Accounts supports remote POP access. Instead of forwarding mail from WestHost to Yahoo (and risking having your forwarded messages blocked or marked as spam), you should instead configure Yahoo to automatically fetch messages from WestHost. Follow the simple steps below to access your WestHost e-mail account from within Yahoo:
- Login to your Yahoo Mail account.
- Click on Options, then Mail Options.

- Click on Accounts, then "Add or edit an account". (Note: If you are using the older Yahoo Mail interface, your options page may be displayed differently. In this case, click on "Mail Accounts".)

- Click on "Add".

- Click on "Configure Account Manually".

- Enter a name of your choosing to identify this account. Under Sending Mail, enter your name and your WestHost e-mail address. Leave the "Reply To" section blank. Under Receiving Mail, enter mail.yourdomain.com as the mail server, enter your full WestHost e-mail address as the username, and your e-mail password into the space provided for password. Choose an indicator color and the folder where you want the messages delivered. Under options, uncheck "Leave mail on POP server" (unless you want a copy of messages to remain on the WestHost account as ewll) and "Retrieve new messages only" (so that all existing mail is imported into Yahoo). Then click "Save Changes" to continue.

- Click "Send Verification".
