My simple mind views it as this:

A bill comes from the company bank account. An expense is paid by you personally and will be reimbursed by the company.

Just done my first VAT return using FreeAgent (very easy) and I thought the entry on the tax timeline would disappear. Just seen this entry and know why not - not a problem but when you have rune out of things to do, the suggestions above would be nice!!

I too am a Freshbooks user for one business but use FreeAgent for two others. I was also looking for the functions you mention but having used FreeAgent for several months now I find that it has more benefits in terms of time saving and accounting to compensate for the loss of some of the Freshbooks features.

Personally, I am glad I made the switch and will be turning off Freshbooks (which is the best stand alone invoicing app out there) for good on 31 Dec.

There are already several fields such as [reference] and [invoice_date] which are really useful. It would be even better if you could add one for the name of the person being invoiced . This way the email can be a bit more personal.

I am in my first trading quarter and VAT period. I set the flat rate scheme up wrong (11.5% instead of 12.5%). I have gone into the settings and updated it but the VAT is still being calculated on the 11.5% basis.

I set up a bill and attach a copy of the invoice from my supplier. I pay the bill. Now it is locked and I can't open the attached file. Is this right?

Thanks Stuart. FreeAgent doesn't do this so it would appear that if trading address is not the same as registered office my invoices are not compliant! Can anyone from Free Agent comment on any plans to help with this.

Can this be done? I create invoices at the start of each month and add project work and hopefully expenses to them throughout the month and then send on 30th. I can see how to attache unbilled expensesd to new invoices but can this be done?
