Matt Mower replied on November 27, 2009 12:02 to the question "crashes badly" in LucidMac Software:
Hi.
I'm sorry you are having a problem. Unfortunately, at present, I do not have time to support or fix the Spike log parser which is in need of some attention.
The only advice I can give you is to make sure your log is in the standard format and does not contain any strange messages (for example Hodel3000 logger format is not supported) from plugins.
I realise it's not an ideal answer but, right now, it's the only one I can offer you.
Regards,
Matt

Hi Robert.
You raise some very good points which, alas, I don't have very good answers to right now.
I've loaded similar size log files in the past and it's slow but it will load them - unless something goes wrong.
The parser is really crap. Apparently I've yet to learn the lesson that every time I think "This is simple, I can hand-roll this parser" I should slap myself and sit down with Ragel.
The only thing I can say in my defence is that the source is available so someone with more time & inclination can fork and fix these problems.
Realistically I don't see myself having time to do so in the near future.

Matt
Matt Mower replied on October 19, 2009 09:29 to the problem "Spike is unable to handle IP addresses that start with '120'" in LucidMac Software:
Thank you for the report.
I can confirm that with 120 it never finishes processing but with 119 or 121 it does. Puzzle!
I'm using the Cocoa function 'hostWithAddress' to parse the IP address and it seems pretty unlikely that there's going to be such a serious problem there.
At the same time, I can't see how 120 rather then 119 or 121 makes any difference to the code ripping out the IP.
Unfortunately, at the moment, I do not have time to look any more deeply into the problem. But if & when I do I will post an update.
Regards,
Matt

I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem.
When I try this myself it seems to work as normal. This could be because I am using 1.0 on 10.6 and it's related to some bug I have inadvertently fixed between this and the 0.9 releases. Or it could be related to something local to you. I raise this as a possibility because yours is only the second such case I've heard of and in the previous case setting the author info fixed the problem.
Are you familiar with the 'Console' application in Mac OS X? If you look for it with finder you will find it under /Applications/Utilties on your Mac system disk.
Can you run that. Toward the top of the window you will find a filter entry field with "String Matching" in it. Type in 'elysium' and then try to save in Elsyium again. Please post back what, if anything, is logged to the console.
I am afraid that between work and other commitments I am quite pushed at the moment and don't have a lot of time to work on Elysium. But I will try and help get you up and running if I can.
Regards,
Matt

Matt Mower replied on October 06, 2009 08:59 to the question "Crash of Elysium 1.0.0 on 10.6.1" in LucidMac Software:
Can you tell me exactly what you were doing when the application crashed?
You mentioned that you were playing around with setting multiple LFO's. Did it crash while you were in the designer, maybe adjusting the LFO?; Or while setting an LFO? Or during playback?
Any more information you can give me about the specific circumstances would be very useful.
Thanks,
Matt
Matt Mower replied on October 05, 2009 08:55 to the problem "Crash of Elysium 1.0 on 10.5.8 (Error report)" in LucidMac Software:
As many users have now confirmed there is a definite problem with 1.0 on OSX 10.5 machines. Further testing yesterday seemed to indicate that the problem occurs when 1.0 is *built* on a 10.6 machine and used on a 10.5 machine. Which oughtn't be an issue but... it is.
I'm still looking into this but advise that all 10.5 users skip release 1.0 for now.

Hi Charlie.
Glad you're enjoying Elysium, it's always nice to get feedback (well, mostly nice anyway) and I look forward to reading about how you're using it.
The issue of sync to host is still one of interest to me, especially since I have started using Elysium to drive MIDI controlled effects (e.g. Tim Exile/Native Instruments 'The Finger') as well as instruments.
I'm going to push this back up the list and if anyone can offer any assistance with working it all out I'd be most grateful.
Thanks,
Matt

Let me filter out annoying tweetsRight now my bug-bear is this Four Square thing. I really don't give a fig who the mayor of my gym is so imagine how much less I care about the mayor of the gym/library/station of your town.
Since I can't control what interesting people will suddenly take to bombarding me with this nonsense I don't feel like unfollowing over this is so I'm left with no answer.
I'd like Tweetie to help me filter out unwanted tweets from people I want to follow.
Some kind of smart keyword or maybe even Bayesian filtering ought to get close to an 80/20 solution that I, for one, could live with.

Matt Mower replied on July 11, 2009 08:59 to the problem "Impossible to save" in LucidMac Software:
Philippe,
Can you look in the console and see if there are any errors displayed there.
If you're not familiar with it you run the Console application (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) then in the filter search field (where you'll see a magnifying glass and 'String Matching') enter 'Elysium'.
Can you paste anything you find?
The problem I have identified may not be the same as the problem you are having with the LFO button (I am struggling to see a connection). Any log messages you are getting would be helpful in identifying a common nature to the problem.
Thanks.

I'm glad you're enjoying it.
The documentation lags far the application both in terms of the features of the application (e.g. the new MIDI triggering) as well as in it's overall quality. To access the documentation choose "Elysium" from the "Help" menu.
I plan to rewrite, edit, and expand the documentation as well as do some demo videos to coincide with the 1.0 release.

Hi Philippe.
I haven't quite been able to duplicate your problem. In my case I was able to re-open the LFO panel, however the panel wasn't working (although the app didn't crash).
I'm heading out to dinner so I won't be able to look at it this evening. If you want to add a ticket describing the problem on Macdeveloper.net that's cool, otherwise I will do it tomorrow or Sunday.
Hopefully I'll be able to get this fixed for the next release.
Thanks for the report.
How are you finding Elysium otherwise?

I think I know the bug you are experiencing. Try going into the preferences and setting an author name & email. These values are written into the file but are not transmitted anywhere.
This bug is actually fixed in a later version available from Macdeveloper.net. If you want to get that, go here:
http://macdeveloper.net/projects/view/94
and sign up for a free tester account. You will then be able to download the latest release which has a considerable number of fixes compared to the release you have.
Alternatively I will be releasing 1.0 in a week or two.

Matt

Again apologies for the delay, I really haven't had any time for Elysium the last month or so.
However I have fixed this problem this morning. The solution was very simple (I forgot to wire up the layer controls to the player controls on load), suspiciously so. I can't think how this got overlooked or broken.
The fix is checked in. If possible I'd like to address your crash bug before doing another release but there will be a release soon.

Somewhat belatedly you'll notice that your patch is now in master.
Since I've hit a block with Rytme and am going to have to spend some time reworking I'm going to do some tidying up on Elysium and put out another release.
Having had a quick play with it I am happy with how your patch works.
Thanks again for sending it in, I'm sure a lot of other people will find it useful to be able to navigate using the keyboard.

Hey Lars
Sorry to take so long to get back to you on this but I haven't had any time to work on Elysium for a while.
I just tried to access your crash log and the rafb.net page isn't working any more.
If you still have the crash log please send it to me at self@mattmower.com.

Hi Lars.
I've just been able to reproduce your problem. The save/load code has always been a bit of a bugbear.
I notice that if you set the tempo at the layer level it works but you cannot, subsequently, re-inherit the right value.
Hopefully given the reproducibility of the problem it won't be too hard to identify and fix.
Thanks for letting me know about it.

Matt Mower replied on April 13, 2009 14:23 to the idea "Moving the selection with arrow keys" in LucidMac Software:
All good reasons although I may look at this as an opportunity to rethink how the code works now to simplify this kind of interaction.
If I read you right then you essentially treat moving left & right as following a "row" in the lattice so, alternately, taking the upper and lower neighbor in a direction. That's naturally how I thought about the problem as well.
To hit the other neighbor then requires, for example, to move left & up. Another possibility (that I think you mentioned) is to have a modifier key that would select the other sideways neighbor. I'm not clear whether that would be practically learnable and would err on the side of using two movements to begin with.
I'm glad you're enjoying using Elysium, it's given me a lot of pleasure to build and play with although I confess that I've spent more time building lately. If you've got an public tracks made using it I'd love to hear them.
I'm really thrilled to hear you're going to use it live. That's awesome!
