I believe I have found a fix...
I was having the same issue, I uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and then I ran CCLEANER to see if there was some straggeling registry issue. I noticed that there was a reference to UltravncAx.dll that "should have been" living in the C:\Program Files\Bozteck\VNCScan Console .NET folder. Alas it was missing... I had VNC loaded on another machine and grabbed a copy from it and Voila... Error went away. The timestamp on the file I copied is 4/29/2007, version 1.1.0.2 ... I'm not sure if that is the latest and correct file. However, It is now working properly. Perhaps it got missed in the installer files???

OK, thanks yes that works. I was hoping to just be able to double-click on the hostname and have a new RDP window open, like what happens with VNC hosts. Like maybe there could be a way to link the custom command to a checkbox in Computer Properties >Terminal Services or just have a custom command in that Terminal Services properties sheet.
Steve Bostedor replied on August 14, 2008 15:41 to the discussion "Can open RDP sessions in own window vs tab?" in Bozteck:
The easiest way to do this is with a custom command. Here's how to create it:
1. Open the custom command editor under the Tools menu
2. right-click the listbox in the window and choose 'New'
3. Give the command a descriptive title
4. Use the following command line: mstsc /v:%HOST%
There are other command line switches that you can use such as /f to open it in full screen mode.
To see the full list of command line options, run mstsc /?
Does this help?
Steve Bostedor replied on August 13, 2008 00:30 to the idea "Add feature Computer description" in Bozteck:
You can get this info if you right-click the domain/workgroup in "My Network Places" and refresh the list. If you store the descriptions in Active Directory instead of on each computer, you can get this by clicking the button to add a workgroup or domain, and checking the box that it's an Active Directory domain.
Does this help?

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll post more details once I actually know them.
Did this remotely and can't actually see why it failed. Rather than head over there, I'll just set the old alarm up an hour.
And, of course, you're right about the problem you are trying to fix possibly messing with Safe Mode... but not this problem :D

Steve Bostedor replied on August 11, 2008 01:06 to the question "Reboot to safe mode, no ping?" in Bozteck:
It generally works quite well. Can you please give some more details? Did the remote computer not boot up into safe mode with networking support?
One thing that throws a wrench into the gears is the fact that most people are rebooting into safe mode because there is a problem that is so sticky that it can't be dealt with in normal mode. Sometimes, that issue is the root of the failure to reboot into safe mode with networking.
Have you ruled this out, yet?
We have standard forums at http://www.vncscan.com/forums. You'll probably be more used to that format. I agree that this format is restrictive and strange.
A comment on the question "Help with Thumbnails" in Bozteck:
Steve, Just purchased VNCScan and have already reffed to several of my peers. Thanks for the quality admin tool. In my case, this problem does seem to be isolated to Server 2008 and Vista boxes. I am using domain admin credentials and XP SP2 & SP3 boxes work fine. Try'ed killing UAC, turning off WAF. I can hit C$ just fine, but I can not seem to hit my remotely deployed VNC (UNVC 104) or get thumbnails to generate. – WayneJ, on August 08, 2008 19:47
A comment on the discussion "Latest version slow in remote sites" in Bozteck:
The previous version was 2008.4.4.213. Now I use version 2008.7.8.228. All the other computers use ultravnc 1.1.0.2 inlcuded in vncscan. – Peter, on August 08, 2008 11:05

Steve Bostedor replied on August 04, 2008 12:31 to the problem "Vista SP1 RDP Console Problem" in Bozteck:
yea, I see where the problem is and it's a tough one. Because it's an embedded activex control that is being used, if we enable the latest version, anyone using VNCScan on an XP box prior to SP3 will have problems but if we keep it the way that it is, users of Vista SP1 and XP SP3 will have problems.
I think that we're going to have to set up a way to conditionally run the embedded control. We're working on this and should have a resolution soon.

This is added to the computer settings when deploying to ensure that the correct viewer is associated with the server being deployed.
If you were to choose the TightVNC server for deployment, it would use the c:\fastpush\vnc7\tight128\vncviewer.exe.
The vncviewer.exe that is in the main vncscan program folder is actually the same exact one as the one in the ULTRA folder.
