sciamannikoo asked a question in Postbox, Inc. on October 07, 2009 15:44:
Postbox interface explained, pleaseIs it possible to have a full documentation of Postbox interface?
Many things are taken for granted, but, for instance, when I click on the read/unread flag and a read message, first I get a clock icon, then when I click again I get the unread flag.
What is this clock icone? I cannot get the same icon using the contextual menu.
Thanks.

Jessie, you're right.
I still find hard to believe that your are a so small team and this is probably affecting my wisdom :)
Also, there is a sort of "guilt feeling" as I've a license I cannot enjoy because of that (we already sorted out this issue, if you recall) whilst I really want to use.
I'll patiently wait then... :) – sciamannikoo, on September 24, 2009 07:52

Jessie,
I repeat, Books is open source. When I write a code to publish a post in Wordpress using XML-RPC, I don't copy, I just use a protocol: perhaps Books does something similar and this would be not "copying", but just "reusing", as long as you provide credit to Books for this part of code.
Besides, the best code that Microsoft used is the copied one ;)
Amazon, as someone already stated, is incomplete of many media and items (at least, outside US, and, well, there is not only US in this world).
If you are selling Delicious around the world, you must take care of us, without further procrastinations.
I don't quite care if your "CEO, who is quite passionate, a little obsessive-compulsive, and completely hands on, is hesitant to take other peoples' word for things": he's getting user's money anyway and not just from US.
How can we know what is the best database ever? Some of us may know that, others are just normal users, expecting to have something working for their countries.
As someone suggested, probably the best thing to do is to provide some APIs and a plugin system to let other users to take care of this issue, so your CEO will be also free of any responsibility, your team will be relieved of other work load and developers will be happy to solve this issue.

Good one!
Though, again, I think they just need to take a look to how other (Books) did that. – sciamannikoo, on September 23, 2009 06:16

However, I really hope you two guys will talk each other for a common standard, instead of fight.
The time when each company used to create its own standards to provide the same service (or a very similar service by the way) is over.
The fact is that is most likely that a business man will use a HMNIE device, than a Poken, because is more "professionally" looking (not everybody is proud, like us, to show their inside child ;) ).
At least, would be nice if a Poken could talk with a HMNIE device and viceversa. On that case, doesn't really matter who own what.
Eventually, would be more or less like people that owns a Blackberry vs People that owns a iPhone (or anything else, for that matter).
So, please, again: use a single standard and talk each other.

Grazie Anna!
Grazie ancora! – sciamannikoo, on July 27, 2009 17:07

Hi Jessie.
I think I'll ask the refund, for two reasons:
1. I would have preferred a answer like: "Sorry, we missed that. We will add the support for Italian book as well as other countries, right away!"
2. I've tried a lot to work without this feature, while waiting your answer, but the software, without this feature, is actually useless and I would waste less time creating my catalog by hand on an Excel worksheet.
Too bad that you don't even plan to add this feature in a very far far far future. You just prefer to refund me, therefore I'll take the refund and I'll buy some other softwares that provides Italian support or, even better, I'll stick with Books, that is also free and look on many many many public books databases.

Italian lookup missingI'm very disappointed, after buying a license, to realize that it completely misses search features for the Italian market.
And developers cannot say that is because there are not search services, are competitors doesn't have this problems (see Books, or Booxter).
My mistake was that I've tested only with imported data and as I had a lot of items, I was unable to add new items and realize of this missing feature.
However, I hope you will solve ASAP this missing thing, as shouldn't be a big dealt to implement a wider system to retrieve data.
By the way, you included few countries, only basing to the availability of Amazon's websites: why you didn't consider at all other countries?

Bryan, my disappointment wasn't about usability.
The fact is that you wrote "We've had to push the release date of the API back in order to focus on usability of our core web application", but I didn't see a lot about APIs.
Actually, doing a search with Google, I've eventually found this so something has been actually done, but an update here would have avoided any argument ;)
