How long does it take for the system to download the radar image? I tried the same steps discussed above and I get the same problem that Dan brought up: a black screen for a moment (with the NWS frame around it, but no image in the middle), back to the default page, then onto the next page.
Chad, I have the page dwell set to 30 seconds, that should be enough, right?

I've got the same winter storm coming this morning, and I've already put up all of my school canceled messages as full-screen alerts... My problem is I have video programming scheduled during this time, which will negate these Carousel messages as soon as the programs automatically play.
My request would be: to have a way to allow permissions to users to create an alert page that either:
1) Overrides the current cablecast automation for the period of time that the alert page is scheduled to run; or
2) Creates a DSK crawl with the same text as the alert page, which can then run over the video programming when it switches over
Perhaps both of the above are possible, switchable as a preference by the channel administrator?

sserre replied on January 28, 2009 01:41 to the question "output a single channel to two router outputs" in Tightrope Media Systems:
If your Sigma router has more than one output, could you simply route whichever input that carousel occupies to both outputs #1 and #12? For example, output #1 goes to your main channel output, and output #12 goes to your lobby display?
If you are saying that you want Carousel to show up on both INPUTS #1 and #12, then yes you will need a video DA to accomplish this.-

sserre replied on January 15, 2009 01:07 to the question "record a show in advance" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hi Carol,
This question has come up a few times on the forum. Here is the latest discussion of this issue: http://gsfn.us/t/10wa
I'd like to take the opportunity to ask again for an elegant TRMS solution to this problem. It does seem that this is a common automation need, to be able to have the first instance, or run, of a show ID be in a "LIVE" format, and all the subsequent instances be in a "RECORDED" format; to perform all the necessary steps of recording (to whichever device), switching formats and resending autopilot, without further user intervention. Perhaps also, optionally triggering a DSK text of some kind which indicates the first run is 'live' and the other runs are 'recorded.'
As I mention in the thread listed above, we have a daily morning program that replays each day at night. The ability to show it live and encode it automatically is a powerful tool to have. The only thing that's a drag is that I have to intervene each day to change the show format and resend autopilot. If for some reason I forget to log in and do this, I'm toast.
Since I create show IDs and schedule runs for 12 or 13 weeks of this program at one sitting, anything to make the process easier would be great. Right now I use Batch>Create Series and Batch>Auto Schedule to make the shows and put them into the schedule (both are excellent tools!!). Then I have to go into each live run details, and click "Record Run," select the Encoder, select Ok, then save the changes.
The solution in this thread will work, however it requires me to have another show ID for the live run of the show, and another step to create and schedule the unique show IDs. I would prefer the daily intervention instead.
Any chance to work this into a future release of Cablecast? Sorry for the long post, thanks as always for listening and your consideration...

Thanks John. I'm going to see if I can contact Viewcast to see if we can get a demo. Their website isn't very clear about the availability of the software. The flash encoder does work correctly on the server when we stop the cablecast device control service.
Do you know which model Osprey card is installed in these servers? I checked the device manager but the best I can come up with is 'Osprey-2X0 AV Stream Video Device'. Thanks!
sserre asked a question in Tightrope Media Systems on January 05, 2009 02:30:
Add Flash Video to Streaming ServersThe topic of inlcuding Flash video in TRMS products has come up a few times on the forum. I understand from previous posts that it's cost-prohibitive to work in an enterprise-level encoder into the VOD servers. However, does anyone know a good reason why we couldn't install the basic Adobe Flash Media Encoder onto our web streaming machines? I believe that Viewcast (maker of the Osprey capture card in those servers) makes a piece of software called Simulstream ($500) which would allow the capture card in those machines to create BOTH wmv and flash streams. Right now when we attempt to run the flash encoder on those machines, there is a conflict.
The end result: we would like to include a Flash window for each of our three channels embedded into our new website design, and keep providing the wmv stream that's controlled through Cablecast. Short of putting a new machine online to do this, does anyone have any advice/caveats/etc. on doing this?

Tom, I like your idea for a podcast link on each show listing too! I would suggest having both the full page of podcasts as the public site has now, and an additional link as you described. I wonder if Tightrope Creative is considering a makeover for the generic public site in Cablecast?? Even a basic makeover would be a big improvement!!

sserre shared an idea in Tightrope Media Systems on December 23, 2008 22:53:
Cablecast Feature- 'Restart Window' for Video ServersOccasionally I need to restart my video server, after software updates, config changes, and rarely, other problems. I am running three channels (each at its own router/location). It would be great if there was a way for Cablecast to tell me when the next 'window' of time is available to do the restart. Normally I look for about 5 min. of time when NONE of my three channels is playing a video program on the VS4. It's a little tricky to find that perfect time to restart the server while not disrupting video playback.
Perhaps this could be found using a submenu called 'system maintenance' or something?
Then maybe have a checkbox to select, which will automatically restart the server at exactly this time, so if the time happens to be 3:00 AM, the restart could happen unattended?
