Tickets and tasks by email is something that everyone's been really wanting for a long time. Ditto on your request though - I hate having to do the whole formal account set up thing for users who must learn to use the site to create tickets. It's always been one of my gripes about all systems like this.
For me GoPlan just has lesser evils than others do, fair pricing, and despite this particular thread, fairly fast response on user requests that they agree with.
Steve asked a question in Goplan on July 02, 2009 21:43:
Will we eventually be able to create tasks by email? We now have the ability to reply to discussions by email, which is great. In a similar way, are there any plans to allow users to create tasks based on an email sent to their own GoPlan account?

Bring Web 2.0 functionality to due dates in GoPlanI'd love to see an easier way to deal with due dates in GoPlan. I've used several apps like basecamp, highrise, batchbook, zoho projects, google calendar, etc. and they all have a really easy way of assigning dates to things.
GoPlan uses the drop downs for month and day, but on these other systems, you can type in a date without having to work with cumbersome drop down menus. More importantly, you can use natural language words and phrases such as today, tomorrow, next Friday, next week, or next month. If you've ever used google calendar you know what I'm talking about. It assigns the due date based on the natural language logic. Well, I've gotten spoiled by working with due dates in this manner. It's really slick and I really hate going back to drop downs. Granted it's not a deal killer and actually a pretty minor thing, but since we're encouraged to share ideas and ask for stuff...
I think it would be great to have that capability in GoPlan!

Yeah, I see what you mean. I guess what I'm looking for is just a more thorough version of the My todo list. For me, it's important to be able to distinguish between Tickets (most urgent items), tasks with due dates, and then all other tasks. Being able to see what project they are for would just provide a better user experience - that way I wouldn't have to click into each one to find out who it's for.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad it's being considered.

As time goes by, I don't miss this feature as much (I got used to having this capability with Basecamp). I had one or two customers/users on my projects complain about missing that at first, but it's all working out ok. In fact, I think there is actually a benefit to people logging in and using the tools online, instead of sending their reply from email. That's not to say it wouldn't be a good feature, but I think usage is up since I switched - primarily because they have to log on to the system to use it. Once they're in, they seem to be more engaged with the tools and features available.
So, while I still think the reply by email is invaluable for mobile users (iphone, etc.), I'm on the fence to whether I think it's as important for users on their desktops/laptops.

Idea for enhancing the Agenda - include undated tasks...The agenda page off the dashboard is a great start toward a page that would be really useful for me. I love what it does already; showing milestones and tasks with due dates. However, I wish it showed all tasks that are assigned to me, broken down by project.
I did a sort of mockup for how this would be great for me. This is what "could be" displayed below the section on the agenda that currently shows items with due dates.
I think this would be really helpful. As it is right now, there's no place in GoPlan where I can see all tasks assigned to me across all projects.

When I click a milestone to see its detail, why doesn't it show the tasks assigned to it?When viewing milestones, it would be great if it showed the tasks assigned to it. In addition to viewing everything related to the milestone, you could also check off tasks for milestones from the same view. This would work great in my world!

Discussion section layout and usabilityDiscussions are great, but when you have many discussions on the page, it gets a little hard to work with. Visually, it can be hard to see where a discussion ends and a new begins. The font size for discussion titles is so close to the same used for body text. This could really be as simple as making the titles of each discussion appear in a much larger size. That way you could scan down the page more quickly and easily see where new discussions start.
Additionally, seeing the whole message of each discussion without display options is not a good idea in my opinion - especially when those creating discussions that are several paragraphs long. It would be nice if you could toggle between a "verbose" view and a condensed view which showed a limited amount of the initial discussion post. Just something to make this section a little easier to work with when a whole lot of discussions happening. Even with only a half dozen long discussions, that section of GoPlan gets really long really quick.
In our projects, the discussions are is used for job scoping and project planning so the initial posts and subsequent replies can be pretty lengthy.
I also wish hyperlinked text stood out a little more too. The choice of link color does not stand out enough in my opinion.-
