Zach Graham set one of Joe Dillon's replies as an official response to "Description of trackbacks, please." in SquidTop

Thanks for the reply! A little more pleeze...is it important that your trackback be relevant? Meaning, if I am leaving a comment on a blog about recipes, it is better for me to leave a trackback to one of my recipe lenses or just pick one I'd want others to see? I've read conflicting information and would like to get it clearer in my head...plus hoping this back and forth helps someone else figure it out =D As always, thanks!

Clouda,
A trackback is when you send a little message to another blog when you reference a post from that blog. The 'trackback' then shows up in the comments.
example:
If you were to reference one of the posts on Captain Squid and you put the URL of the post you are talking about in the 'trackback' box, when you publish your post a little one line comment will appear on that post on Captain Squid!
It's a pretty cool feature, give it a try!

Sorry, I tried to respond yesterday but I just kept getting 500 internal server error codes.
I've used Text Messaging. Of course it works here but it didn't in my post.

it's almost always instant. If it's not going through for you for some reason, try another e-mail address to register with, check your spam folder, and if you still can't get it then shoot us an email at admin ^AT^ squidtop *DOT* com with your e-mail and your blog name and we'll manually create it as a last resort.

I think i prefer Socialthing, but I'll stick with Friendfeed until I can add arbitrary RSS feeds.
Please note that I am aware that Socialthing and Friendfeed are different beasts (see last blog article at http://blog.socialthing.com/2008/03/1... for a more detailed explanation), however it happens that I use Friendfeed to track _my own_ activities and I want to try using Socialthing for the same purpose (and possibly more)-
The Captain started following the idea "RSS" in SocialThing.
