Tim Mashinter replied on December 21, 2009 19:10 to the problem ""add a thought" buttton does not work" in Primal Fusion:
Hi terschinsky,
The page you are seeing is the initial display of the screen. Some buttons on the app are disabled (like Add a Thought) if you have not yet submitted a main thought.
The 'Add a Thought' button is meant to add a thought to an existing cloud. When you click your cursor into the 'Type a Thought Here" input box, the words do disappear since it is meant for you to type your thought.
Here is how you get started:
- Click in the 'Type a thought here' box
- Type a thought
- Hit ENTER or click the 'checkmark' icon to the right of the input box
- This will start you on the path to building your thought cloud.
Once you have an active thought (orange word), you can proceed to use all the controls in the application.
Hope this helps. You're comments point out a part in the UI that is not very clear and we should probably investigate it a bit so that starting the interaction with the application is easier.
For futher help click the "Help" button in the top-right of the page and "watch the 60 second video".
Thanks for taking the time to message us.

Glad to help.
No, Chrome had nothing to do with the problem you found. We're still looking into the cause of the problem so we can fix it.
Feel free to continue using chrome on our application if its working for you. It not being a supported browser, really just means we haven't taken the time to fully test the application on it so there could be things that don't work right that are related to your browser.
Thanks for taking the time to let us know your issue.

Hi,
Thanks for the information. I was able to reproduce the problem you saw (the error dialog) so we will look into it. As for your "C++" disappearing. It will still be in your thought network. The "my thought network" fly down area is just an overview of your network so not all concepts will show up there.
To get your thought cloud back just start by typing the same word into the main input field "C++" and it will load up the thought cloud you had constructed. Hope that makes sense and thanks for the feedback.

All good things. The picture above isn't the final design is just a wireframe highlighting the planned layout of the new app. The design with colors and fonts and all that haven't been finalized yet (at least I don't think so).
When we have a finalized version of what were planning on having the screen actually look like I'll try to get someone to upload an image of it, so you can see it.
When you look at the above picture try to just focus on the layout for now. But all those are are valid points that I'll share with the UI design guy (maybe it'll spark something he hasn't thought of yet).
Thanks! :)

I saw your first reply in that other thread (the one I linked to above). The excitement you have is the kind of excitement all of us here at PF should have, but the overall concept of PF is so far reaching it's hard not to get excited about it. :)
Anyways, I pointed out that post to one of the CEO's this morning. ;)

Hi Pandora,
Good idea. We actually have a new design for the page you speak of to do exactly that. It'll be starting in development within the next couple weeks. This thread http://getsatisfaction.com/primalfusi... actually shows an image of the basic layout we are going for. Feel free to add any comments/feedback to that thread.

Tim Mashinter replied on August 28, 2009 16:28 to the question "Where are the references?" in Primal Fusion:
me again...
Sorry just noticed that one of the pages has that dieting ad on it and the rest seem pretty good. My only guess here is the keywords for "socioeconomics & poverty" and the fact that the page doesn't have any content caused google to choose that ad. Not very fitting. I would bet that if the page had some content in it that the ad would be different.

Hi Ag,
I think there is a known issue around the totals that you mentioned. I'll allow someone else to comment on that more formally.
As far as the ads go it takes a bit of time for the ads to become relevant, I just checked it and they look pretty good now. :)
"a diet ad on a poverty site.. yikes" <- lol

Oh okay. Sorry. I misunderstood your first reply.
I've noticed that we have recently logged a defect with the same behaviour you mentioned. But the problem seems intermitent (doesn't happen all the time). So we'll keep it logged and an eye on it. But for now, waiting a little while then recycling the browser seems to work.

Hi Manish,
I didn't say that it solves the problem. Not sure why it says that under my post. Maybe someone else marked that.
I'm not sure what the problem is really (I'm new here). I was just stating that I tried the steps you mentioned and did not see the problem. The problem I had seen the other day, that I mentioned above, I think was probably related to cookie confusion on my local machine since I use the real application as well as multiple test applications so I think for me, my problem was just confusion between all the versions of the app I run. Which restarting my browser fixed.
For you, I was saying that maybe the site will work properly if you tried a new thought with new content. If it does, that just helps us narrow down the area in which the problem lies. So that we can fix it.

Hi Manish,
I just tried this out and it seems to be working. I did notice yesterday that I had a similar issue but found that it corrected itself after closing my Firefox browser and re-opening it. It seemed (for me) that the app wasn't authenticating properly (cookie).
You could give that a try. Otherwise, maybe there is something in your specific thought/content that is breaking it. Try it with a new thought. Might help rule out some of the variables.
