Timmy reported a problem in BumpTop on June 15, 2009 23:29:
settings.json missing?I have searched my entire hard drive but "settings.json" is nowhere to be found.
I was told though, in this topic I have to edit that file to get the job done.
Why is it not there (or anywhere)?
Where should it be?
Am I doing something wrong?

Yeah, I've mentioned that and a bunch of other features before.
The community is in need of their eye candy!! xD
Forget the low-end systems, they were never meant to install BT :P
Sure, the developers need to take compatibility in concideration but they can't get stuck in the past. It'll only slow development down!
But if you really need to satisfy them, you could launch a BumpTop lite?

I love the way people are sharing ideas in this topic.
Lifemare made some very good points there. I surely agree that the professionalism with BT has nowhere else been seen due to its simplicity, reliability and functionality. Adding more could give less.
But...
You can twist and turn it any way you like, a 3rd party desktop enhancement will always be less functional than the original thing.
People check these things out because they're looking for something new and refreshing. They can find all that in BT but people always want more. It's simply in our nature. Giving them (us) optional eye-candy could only be an addition to BT's greatness, right? Considering installer size, usability and all the other stuff mentioned above. Perhaps some features can come in the form of plug-ins. Heck, how about charging $5 if you wanna crumple ur crap? :P
BumpTop is the only visual improvement that lasts so long on my desktop. All that cube spinning made me dizzy, all the crashing annoyed me, all the incompatibility got me frustrated. Now, BT provides a stable alternative to the dull Windows Desktop that make my friends go "That's a cool desktop, dude!"!
They've got a great community going on here. Brilliant minds sharing wonderful ideas. I don't believe it gets any better.

I'm sure the additional features don't work out for everyone but there should at least be an option to choose if you want them available for you.
Just e few minutes of setup could customize BumpTop to your personal needs. Besides, more functions makes more combinations possible, therefore there would be more unique BumpTops. We all have different real workspaces after all ;-)
Another thing, if I see the promised functions from the first promo vid, I'll definitely buy it!

I do believe the original idea is to make it look like you have a "real" desktop, not a "room". You could create a very office-like environment if you'd be working with "real" cubicles. Use a hotkey to zoom out from your current 'digital cubicle', slide to the next and zoom back in so it takes up your full screen again. I'm afraid all this will take up much system recourses though, then again, it's a feature that can be disabled, right? ;-)

Tiny Trash Can icon...I've replaced the trash can icon with a new icon I downloaded (.ico file). However, when I use it, it comes out really really tiny. Shrinking or growing the icon doesn't change anything and I've tried changing the icon via BumpTop and via control panel (desktop icons) but it comes out the same... Anyone else with this issue?

Perhaps you could put it under BumpTop?
Might sound crazy... but I keep my real trash can under my desk.
BT is still an attempt to give a real look and feel to your desktop, just like in the real world. A key-combination could make you look down under the desktop and you could grab and throw your crumpled crap right down there...
Perhaps you could have a "take out the trash" function to replace "empty recycle bin" to give it another hint to reality. A swift throw-it-to-the-curb animation, swing it through the window,... I don't know, I'm just brainstorming here! ^_^

Save BumpTop layout
Right-click BT icon, Settings, Under Layout: no option to Save Layout!?
Some people really like to have things tidy. Or sometimes you just put lots of time and effort in creating a desktop layout. Just grab an icon, swing it around and it's all messed up again. Sure, some people like it messy but can you please add a feature for us, the obsessive tidy freaks? >_<
