    OpenID
I think it would be just swell if gravatar also used openid in addition to email addresses as identifiers!

If any change had to be made, it was to extend this setting from a global setting to an individual setting for each user.

This isn't a step backward. This is like three.

I'm the type that hates overly dramatic user revolts. And I especially hate when the especially dramatic user (you know the one) makes the following statement when a developer moves their cheese. So I find myself conflicted by having to say the following:

This change is a deal-breaker for me.

No, I'm not leaving Twitter anytime soon. My network is here! But the utility that locks me into the service as opposed to going to some other status microblogging service (such as facebook) just became quite slippery. I'm now much much more open to exploring other solutions in the near future whereas a few mere moments ago I was quite satisfied with Twitter.

I do predict it'll come back though. And when *crosses fingers* it does, I would love for it to come back in the form I mentioned above! Srsly, it's impossible to follow highly engaged celebrities! On the other hand, I like having @replys for companies who provide customer support via Twitter. Highly valuable. And I'm sure any person on this thread can add personal stories of how @replys has made their Twitter experience significantly better.

Btw, wouldn't this move likely hurts business and industry folk more than anything by decreasing Twitter's viral stickiness? Just sayin'

    Event checkins via mashup
I saw an idea previously involving event checkins. I have an idea to take that a step further: notification and checkin to nearby events based on proximity.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, mashup some of the event calendar services (such as eventful, upcoming, Last.fm etc) and if you checkin to a location during an event or near an ongoing (or soon to start) event, prompt for additional checkin to that event.

As for the idea regarding future checkins, it's true that Plazes and Dopplr do it well, but they are still both negated if ones Brightkite account is tied to their event calendar account. Again, just prompt for confirmation of checkin at the appropriate time.

Twitter Check-in Settings needs more privacy permissions
Just noticed that my twitter account had my home address on it and naturally went to FireEagle to change my location permissions for Twitter. Not finding it, I figured that Brightkite was acting as my location provider. Cool, unchecking the "When I check in at a place, set my Twitter location accordingly (NEW)." box. Problem solved.

That being said, I actually like this feature as Twitter hasn't yet integrated FireEagle. I think if Brightkite is going to be sending my location out to other services, it should adopt a similar permissions model as FireEagle beyond the global public/private switch for just Brightkite.

Minor javascript annoyance in google docs
Just found a minor annoyance in google docs. When trying to change the title of a document while in fluid's fullscreen mode, the usual javascript popup doesn't show up because it's behind the window and any clicking on the window afterward causes the system beep to go off. All this of course until you hit escape to exit full screen mode and the javascript popup is revealed.

Again, extremely minor.. but it does throw off workflow a tad bit especially when you don't know what's going on the first time.

A comment on the question "Facebook app would be amazing!" in Brightkite:

    Timothy Moenk
Def want a customizable Tab outside of just a Boxes widget thingy. In mine, I would want a giant google map with all the places I've checked into! And perhaps a sidebar with the list of my recent checkins and posts.

Also, the newsfeed item should contain a link to the brightkite page for that location so that friends sitting next to me checking out my profile can check in within two clicks (or easily sign up!)

Naturally, pictures taken at a location should also show up in the long newsfeed setting. – Timothy Moenk, on September 03, 2008 03:29

    Journal Ideas
I'd like to see more emphasis put on the Journal. On the new beta, it's still kinda tacked on as an afterthought, and I'd like the option of putting it more front and center in my profile. I'd also like to see it more front and center on other pages to encourage it's use more.

Beyond that, I'd love to see some kind of integration between the last.fm Journal and any blogs I may have lying around. It would be a great way to extend my last.fm experience out into the rest of my internet social experience if Journal posts also posted to my blogs embedded content and all!
