A comment on the idea "Wouldn't it be great if we could add hues or colors to each text background and border lines?" in Yola:
Cornered boxs are actually 4 little images placed in each corenr with css.
The way i made mine was in paint i drew the corners and then made the css for placing them...
I think instead of me trying to teach you css and you drawing the corners yourself - the best thing to do is go here http://www.roundedcornr.com/
In my opinion the smaller the corner the better - i use 5 pixel corner radius on mine - just have a play round with different fiqures see what you like the look of - bigger corners to me tend to look cartoonish - not sleek.
Let me know if you get stuck.

do you want square corners or rounded corners?
Square is very easy rounded are little more tricky - some prefer the look of them - have another look at my page i link above... see which style you prefer (forget about the colours etc. just look at the corners of the box's.

time to step it up?...Hi guys,
This is a moan and a ideas suggestions at the same time.
You all know i love Yola, but i also love being on the winning team, my friend has just made a site with (i wont link it) WP -- its really got some good things on it,
These are the features i thought 'wow' about.
The whole blog side of things is in a different league. YOLA NEEDS THIS
There is a in-site site search which works really well. YOLA NEEDS THIS
There is a in-site RSS reader - really nice. YOLA NEEDS THIS
Better in-site image scrollers/galleries than i have ever seen. YOLA NEEDS THIS
In-site social share icons. YOLA NEEDS THIS
In-site log in. YOLA NEEDS THIS
All of the above add up to a great looking/feeling site. I think at WP they call some of the features above plug ins... Yola should perhaps think about this sytem of things if you dont want to confuse entry level builders.
If you want a link to the site that was built with WP and impressed me so much send me an email.
Looking forward to a response.

A comment on the question "Keeping menu HTML code on my hosting server" in Yola:
Thats a great suggestion Christo, its really nice of you to offer your knowledge and expertise like this. I wish i knew 1% of what you know about java.
In this case i have 2 questions - i know the answer is for Randy but i was also hopeing to have my menu in a single file as i now have 100's of pages.
So question 1 - is this 'normal' or good practice for a main site nav? - i presume if the browser has java scirpts blocked or can not display them the menu will not be visible. Do big sites use this method? or is standard practice a div on the page?
Question 2 - would this effect the chance of Goggle choosing sitel inks for your site? (you know the 4 or 5 page links under your domain name) Also would it have any bad effect in SEO terms?
Thanks Christo - Lee. – UK Duke, on November 23, 2009 08:22

Hi Debra,
Site building is not easy but its very rewarding.
Do you mean when you press enter in the text editor it gives you too big a line space? - if it is this what you do is hod the Ctrl key while you press enter - if its not this let us know and we can help you further.
Yola has a great set of tutorial swhich really helped me out when i started building - this is the image tutroial - http://www.yola.com/tutorials/adding-... -- there is a 1 for just about everything here http://www.yola.com/tutorials.html
To make 2 column you just drag in a 2 column widget - see the image below.
Hope this helps - if you need more help or info just ask.

Hi Mike,
Picnik is working fine for me... but it can be a problimatic app.
In the mean time just go staright to picnik.com instead of going through Yola.
You could check a couple of things... First amke sure your using a new version of a browser - Firefox 3.5 is my recommendation.
Then if you have a new browser version then make sure you have the newest version of flash installed go here and try to download the latest version http://www.adobe.com/products/flashpl...
Let us know if this fix's it.

A comment on the problem "black line - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in Yola:
its ok Monique, it needs fixing - it was the reason i didnt change over to round glass (the original size) - That also has the same issue, Its very hard to get a white background banner to look good, even if you are using the built in menu, without the menu its really ugly.
I'll be looking forward to an outcome.

Yeah Gosforth is only 20 miles away from Hexham, say hello from me - or 'alreet' - she'll know what you mean.
The alphabet links are just anchor links inside whats known as a static link - they have an exact postion on the screen, dosnt matter if you scroll down they stay where there meantt to be - i also added a script to the page which gives you the effect of the page scrolling when you click an anchor link.
I'll help you add it to yoru site if you like. Lee. – UK Duke, on November 22, 2009 17:00
UK Duke replied on November 22, 2009 12:20 to the question "A one page solution" in Yola:
Hi Randy,
You could definitely use an accordian or a drop down menu to achive what your trying to do.
Just so you know, when your researching it... you will need whats called a 3 level menu
The top level would be
shows | playlists | archives
The second level would be
A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | etc.
And the 3rd level would contain a link to the content.
Good luck with it - Lee.
UK Duke replied on November 22, 2009 12:04 to the problem "black line - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in Yola:
Good morning,
@ Yola & Ed - i had already looked into the fact it might be the menu-shadow image but i presumed it must be something to do with the placing of that image, as the issue is a solid black line.
Its actually not that at all. look now http://hexham.info/test
<!--
It's actually 2 sections of the sites css...
The first is this,
div.ys_nav div.ys_clear{
clear:both;
font-size:0;
height:1px;
}
If you change the height value to 0 the line disappears.
The next issue that we are left with is the banner-shadow image, 2 little black corners have been added to it (bottom right and bottom left) probably so the menu fits in smoothly.
These little black corners need removing - or an alternative image needs to be created for the instance of no menu being used.
@ Ed - maybe you could take the image and edit it to remove the little black corners -- we could then upload it to our sites and link to that image instead.
The image in question is here /templates/Gerrard_Wide/resources/banner-shadow.png
In the mean time Ed, before Yola hopefully clean the style for people not using menus you can add this to your page
<style type="text/css">
div.ys_nav div.ys_clear{
clear:both;
font-size:0;
height:0px;
}
div.layout div#sys_banner div.shadow{
background:url(templates/Gerrard_Wide/resources/banner-shadow1.png) top left no-repeat;
behavior: url(templates/Gerrard_Wide/resources/iepngfix.htc);
width:960px;
height:170px;
padding:1px 0 0 0;
voice-family: "\"}\"";
voice-family:inherit;
height:169px;
}
</style>
Notice I have set the banners shadow image to a URL which does not exsist just to remove it, If you can edit the image we could point to that instead.
The banner shadow actuall looks good except for the little black corners. If you want to include it till its fixed (i.e. you dont mind the corners) just change the URL to point back to banner-shadow.png
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
@ Yola Staff,
I have tested not having this section in the css WITH a built in menu and it makes no visual difference even if your using a white banner.
div.ys_nav div.ys_clear{
clear:both;
font-size:0;
height:0px;
}
So i think it could be removed.
As for the banner-shadow image, granted it looks slightly cleaner if your using a white abnner and a built in menu BUT it looks horrible if you remove the menu. Perhaps a small css snippet could be added which points to the same image without the corners if a menu is not used.
I'll leave that up to you to sort out - ive done enough free work on this topic already - not that i mind - i just want my site looking as good as it can.

A comment on the problem "black line - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in Yola:
The image (or the 1 px border) is a part of the template - nothing i have added myslef -- something needs deleting from or adding to the css of the site style to tell it to lose that line when the main built in navigation is not in use.
I dont know if an edit to the template css would be an option after its been released - has it ever been done in the past?

round corners...so its been a long day... but i have finished learning how to create round corners in tables -
Now i have to work on adding round corners to tables with bordered edges...
I think i'll leave that for tomorrow.
See what you think let me know your opinion - http://hexham.info/advanced-taxis - the column on the right has rounded edges - do you like them?

A comment on the question "Keeping menu HTML code on my hosting server" in Yola:
i did a decent bit of research into hosting the div of the menu html so i could up date all pages if i wanted to change my menu - i have over 600 pages in my site so you can image that if i want to change the main nav menu ots alot of work - actually right now half the site has a slightly differnet menu to the other half -.
If you find a way let me know but i dont think its possible – UK Duke, on November 22, 2009 00:36
UK Duke reported a problem in Yola on November 22, 2009 00:03:
black line - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhello Yola staff,
I have swapped my site style over to wide round glass - great template very happy - EXCEPT...
If you remove all the pages from the menu there is a thin black line that remains on the page - Its annoyed me long enough now that i thought i would ask if there was any way i could get rid of it.
I presume the template css would need altering.
You can see it very clear here - http://hexham.info/test -- its the reason i decided i needed a banner with a colour background, with a white banner background it stands out like a sore thumb.
If theres anything you can do - please do
many thanks - Lee.
