i also have this same issue i contacted Dell and the service rep (Divya_178142) wasnt helpful at all just kept saying i must have had a powersurge and it fried the adapter but i kept telling her it was impossible since its connected to a very good surge protecter and i have another computer attached to which is perfectly fine. i purchased the laptop around end of jan and it has been giving me the AC adapter not recognized for about 4 months but i would unplug it and replug it and it would go away and start charging my battery but now it doesnt even do that. my service tag is D8PXCF1 DellBill if your still out there.

I just reported a similar problem to Dell. Inspiron 6000 under warranty another six weeks or so. New battery being sent out to make a first pass at problem solving. However, I have gotten the "ac adaptor not determined" on and off over the last 2-1/2 years. Now, power meter is stuck at 97% and "charging" but can't run off battery. Tech rep said if new battery does not resolve issue then motherboard would be replaced. So, after reading all these messages I am now wondering if the adapter should also be replaced? In system devices the adapter is displayed as "Microsoft AC Adapter" but it is a Dell original 65W adapter. Service tag DHT6191 if you are out there Dell-Bill.

I have a dell inspiron 9300 service tag# 5r4wp81. My computer doesn't recognize my power cord, but it only works when the power cord is plugged in. The battery and cord are both brand new, The battery shows that it is fully charged, but it will not stay powered up unless the cord is plugged in. What can I do to have this problem fixed. I own a business and have purchased atleast 15 dell computers. Any help would b e appreciated.

Sorry, but I can't dispatch outside of the US and Canada. Your warranty expired back in March, so I doubt Dell EMEA will do a warranty excpetion. Your best bet is to buy an ac adapter from Dell Spare Parts in Ireland, or from another supplier of Dell adapters online. You can probably beat Dell's price, but with Dell you get an abbreviated warranty through us instead of whatever the vendor offers. – Dell-Bill_B, on November 03, 2008 20:45

Hmm. OK. I pulled your yahoo email address from your service tag records on a previous contact. I will email you. Please reply to that with your current shipping address at your earliest convenience. – Dell-Bill_B, on November 03, 2008 20:23

My Address is 6051 BaXXX Huntington WV. It should be updated on the Dell website. – Ralph, on November 01, 2008 11:48

The only resolution is an out of warranty exception dispatch, which would depend pretty much on how long ago your warranty expired. Or you could find a new ac adapter pretty cheap out on the web or from Dell Spare Parts. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 31, 2008 20:41

Your warranty is expired, but I will request a warranty exception for you. Is your shipping address still the one that starts with 937-5 West XXXXXXXX? – Dell-Bill_B, on October 31, 2008 20:40

Can you post your service tag, please? I will have a look at it, and see if I can manage to get approval for a warranty exception. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 31, 2008 13:29

Your warranty was recently expired. I sent an ac adapter. Please consider this a one time warranty exception. Thanks for your patience. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 31, 2008 13:28

If you are getting sparks when you plug in your ac adapter, you definitely need to report that to tech support. If your warranty is close to expiring, I urge you to call, email or chat with support as soon as possible. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 06, 2008 13:03
