Scott Jann replied on November 10, 2009 20:40 to the question "Carousel Hang-Up" in Tightrope Media Systems:
The trouble ticket will be best for resolving this issue, but I just wanted to add a comment for the listeners at home.
The 'ping' in question is actually in the communication with the service, we have a command called 'ping' to test communication with the carousel service (sent across TCP port 56901). Thus, this error means the service has stopped for some reason or is no longer communicating on this port.
It is different than a ping on the command line which is testing to see if the machine is reachable at that IP.

Ray, you are completely correct. It was the other thread that was discussing rtsp, but lets assume they're related for now.
I was really hoping to get more information from Trevor or Megan on exactly what sort of stream they have or get access to it over the internet.
You must be right about the announce file getting handled by the QTHelper and you're correct in asserting that if the video doesn't end, we'll sit waiting for Quicktime to tell us it has ended forever.
The problem is, rtsp is like http, it can carry anything. Trevor was using Quicktime to create the stream, so it was in some sort of Quicktime supported format. If someone has a public rtsp stream from Quicktime Streaming Server, I'd like access to it so I can look at fixing Trevor's issue.
Megan, can you clarify what type of stream you are trying to use?
Scott Jann replied on August 24, 2009 16:21 to the question "CarouselScreenSaver.exe.config" in Tightrope Media Systems:
The CarouselScreenSaver.exe.config file only contains the defaults for the screensaver, the actual data is saved to the user profile directory (usually somethine like C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Tightrope_Media_Systems\...). This is why your changes are not having an affect.
However, for enterprise deployment cases, this is a problem, you can't deploy a configuration to all your systems. We will look for a file CarouselScreenSaver.cfg in the same directory as the .scr file (usually C:\Windows\System32), that contains a text configuration that you can use to override the normal settings for initial deployment.
The contents of this file should be two lines that look like:
URL=demo.trms.com
Channel=0
where demo.trms.com should be changed to your carousel server and the 0 should be changed to the channel ID (not name) of the channel you want to display. You can get the channel ID by clicking on the Configuration -> Channels, then click the icon for a preview of the channel:

and then use the number you see after "ChannelID=":

Hope this helps!
Scott Jann replied on August 14, 2009 02:57 to the question "How do you edit a template that already exists in Media > Zone Templates?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Clicking on the thumbnail of the template highlights it for batch operations (the Add, Delete, etc. you mentioned), but clicking the actual blue link that's the name of the template is what you want... that will bring up the editor for that particular template.
The same thing also works for other media types, to let you rename or tag them. Backgrounds and pictures also have some cool effects you can do if you edit them.

Scott Jann replied on April 27, 2009 17:41 to the question "DVD Import will not accept Disks made in Toast 9" in Tightrope Media Systems:
I can assure you we have done nothing to detect and block commercial DVDs from being ripped. We simply read each sector from the DVD with standard operating system calls.
I'm not sure about VisualHub, but the other applications you mention are designed to rip commercial DVDs, and bypass any copy protection. That being said, however, I'm also sure Toast isn't adding copy protection to the discs you've created. Something else is causing our DVD import software to get that error when reading the disc.
Without getting your disc into Tightrope to test, I can think of two things:
- Make sure the DVD drive has its region code set
- If it is all about speed, does your burning software have a mode to write to files (it might be called filesystem or VIDEO_TS folder)? If so, you can import directly from a VIDEO_TS folder off the hard disk, without having to go through the burning step. That might save you a lot of time.
If possible, it would be worthwhile to get a copy of a disc that is not working into Tightrope, so I can take a look at it, contact support for information on sending it to us.

Since the cat is out, today is as good a day as any to let you know about the one feature we're really excited about. One of the features is that we'll have a very simple interface to view all the plays in the game in an intuitive graphical format. For the die hard sports directors, it will be very welcomed that we are including not only plays that have happened, but also, as we've been calling them around here, preplays of the next few plays that are going to happen in the game. We think that this is a huge advantage, and will really help the director plan for what is coming up in the game.

Scott Jann replied on January 13, 2009 19:44 to the question "Max resolution ouput of Carousel Server." in Tightrope Media Systems:
Carousel systems we sell will support DVI, HDMI or VGA connections to monitors, and that resolution is quite a bit bigger than any of those can support (dual link DVI only goes up to 2560x1600). What normally drives such a display?
Carousel itself has no limit on the resolution, it's a matter of getting hardware to drive that size display.
Scott Jann replied on January 12, 2009 16:03 to the update "Announcing Carousel 5.1.7 & 5.2.2" in Tightrope Media Systems:
This is true, it was to fix an issue where people were able to bypass their permissions by modifying groups under the "My Bulletins" tab (it was causing users to get logged out if they didn't have permissions, not letting them do something they weren't supposed to). We decided that it wasn't correct for the "My Bulletins" tab to allow the group to be changed, since a group doesn't necessarily have only bulletins from a single user.

Curious that the error you got referred to kernel32!ProcessIdToSessionId in the call stack. Peraps that is misleading, I know I have successfully run DVDImport 5.0 on a Windows 2000 system with SP4) without running into any trouble like this.
I think the problem is with the newer multiplexer in 5.0, it is now using the SSE2 instructions which are not in the Athlon XP (you only have SSE). Your previous response confirms you don't have SSE2, which is weird, I really thought I remembered the Athlon XP had SSE2. Sorry.
