Hi,
it remembers. The only reason what I can think of why it doesn't work for you is that the app freezes or crashes on your device upon quit and thus it can't save the current view.
Try this: start the app, navigate and zoom to an area and quit the app. Start the app again and post here if it remembered the last viewed area.
If the answer is Yes then it means that for some reason the app crashes on quit on a particular use case. In this case it would be helpful if you could find out a way to reproduce this crash and post here.
If the answer is No then I have no idea. But we'll look into it.

Ability to set in Tweetie app own user API key which is provided in http://bit.ly/account/ would be my feature request.
