We need filters in front of our feeds
As you encourage others to consume our rss/atom feeds of where we are, it becomes more and more important that you, or we place a filter in front of the feed. This would pass the message on, or discard it.
I suggest that such a filter forwards the first of day (TZ aware of course) and any change. I am considering implementing a personal filter using planetplanet or venus software but this should really by something that you implement on your servers.
These filters would eliminate duplication caused by plazers as they are put to sleep, have the lids closed, drop and recover their wifi etc. etc., or as people move from one computer to another for those of us with more than one
It seems as if your map widget and facebook applications have access to this sort of filter today.
Bonus points
You could offer several rules based filters and either ask people to turn the filters on, or change their default, which would/may lead to a lower volume of messages in the feeds, and hence lower resources within the plazes server complex and the various consumer systems.
The failure to offer this functionality/feature inhibits the adoption of some of your technology, either the feeds, or the plazer.
I've mooded myself as unsure, because I strongly believe that this would be a great improvement and its not very high up my personal project list.

Inappropriate?I think you're on to something. Filters on the feeds might be a good idea, but not to get rid of duplicate check-ins from the plazer. I think the plazer should be upgraded to not do duplicate check-ins. In a way, I think http://getsatisfaction.com/plazes/top... talks about the same problem, but I would like that "filter" in the plazer. Until this is changed, I simply don't use the plazer anymore.

Inappropriate?I agree that your link is another aspect of the same problem. The filter solves/ameliorates the problem where some one uses two computers on the same network, although as you have discovered so does turning it off.
I linked from your suggestion to here, and now you have linked back. Other correspondents can now easily see both sides of the problem. Thank you.
