Test Build for Next Update Now Available
Hi Get Satisfaction Testers,
We've made a test build for the next Postbox beta for you to help test. We like to float these test builds in getsatisfaction in advance of the release to help verify bug fixes you helped us identify and to help us look for regressions from the previous beta before we release beta 12.
This is a test build and not the final beta 12 release so please don't blog about it etc. With that being said, here are the download urls:
Mac
http://postbox-inc.com/php/download.p...
Windows
http://postbox-inc.com/php/download.p...
We'll start following up in the various threads with fixes that were included in this build but here are some key areas to look at:
* the search box now includes a popup as you type that lets you change your search scope between all mail or the current folder. We also autocomplete against your previous search history making it easier to recall frequent searches.
* fixes for a many hangs and CPU issues reported here.
* the inspector bar now supports multiple selection for images and attachments
* mac address book groups should now work in the compose window for autocomplete.
* lots of bug fixes
You'll notice some changes in the inspector bar. We are currently in the middle of re-designing the inspector bar so the "look" in this test build is just temporary.
Thanks again for helping us shake out this test build in advance of b12!

Inappropriate?I need a way to pin things to the top. Bumping to get move back to the top now that we've updated all the posts with fixes.
-
Inappropriate?Problem with inspector:
If you select a message, it pops up the sender info in the inspector. Then if you select a conversation it leaves the previous email's sender in the inspector. You have to select an individual email for it to update.
I didn't want to start a new topic for that since you specifically said the inspector isn't done. But i wanted to comment on it since it was the first problem i noticed. -
Hmm, I haven't been able to reproduce this one yet when selecting a message and then selecting a conversation.
We should be using the sender for the first participant in the conversation (i.e the first person listed in the participants header). -
Inappropriate?Guys,
Some of the issues I found:
Search related:
1. Do a search while focus on Account_A
--> see your results
2. Click on Account_B
--> No messages match your search
3.1. CMD+K, clear the search and press TAB key
--> No messages match your search
* I would expect that Postbox understands that I want to "cancel" the previous search just display Account_B
* Now, click on Account_C, still the same message - No messages match your search (but, I've already cleared my search bar)?
3.2. CMD+K, clear the search and press ENTER key
--> Start typing in the search bar to begin your search
* I would expect that Postbox understands that I want to "cancel" the previous search just display Account_B, instead it jumps to "Search All Folders"
Another one:
1. Select a mail and click on "messages" from Inspector
--> It opens a new TAB, but the name of the TAB does not say anything about search... Maybe it should have some sort of indicator that it's a search results tab? Same for others "files", "images", "links"
Could be "Images - Johnny Walker", "Messages - Johnny Walker", as well as "Images - All", "Attachments - All" to distinguish...
Another one:
1. Select a mail and click on "messages" from Inspector
2. Select a mail from the new TAB and click on "images" from the Inspector
3. Go back to previous TAB
--> the last message selected is no more selected
I’m sad
-
The search remaining between switching accounts is an old problem. I reported that here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/postbox/topics/switching_mail_accounts_should_clear_search
No one seemed to care though. -

Thanks for reporting that. Should be fixed in b12 final when it comes out.

That's something we're planning on doing but haven't gotten to yet.
Thanks for the suggestions! -
Inappropriate? So I see you must click enter now after selecting which folder you want to search. Is that the only way or is there a default setting that can be applied?
-
Inappropriate?Test build does seem to be taking out most of the junk now. This makes a huge difference. I am hoping that recognition of spam will improve as time goes on.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?cool, thanks for verifying that POP3 spam regression fix greiggy!

Inappropriate?Hello,
The only thing for me that is better than Thunderbird is the message window in a usenet group does not show an icon for an attachment at the bottom. Having to monkey with the area to the right of the scollbar to get the message to display in vertical view is ridiculous. In TBird there is a menu item for this.
Also, why can't Mac folks support yenc encoding for pictures in usenet? Windows folks can see them but we cannot. Someone I believe mentioned the Junk filtering, but it is poor. I keep telling Pobox and TBird over and over about some spam like "type 30 wpm" from "sam".
All that twitter and social media stuff means nothing to me. I was hoping the basic functionality was better than Tbird (running 3b2) and it mostly is not.
