not the app...the document!
I think this app, which I'm starting to like a lot, would benefit greatly if it tracked the document that each app is working on. instead of just the app.

Inappropriate?Righto-- this is a great idea (it'd be optional, of course) and one of our top requested features. It will happen with the next month or two (hopefully).
-
Inappropriate? This idea extends to URLs, in addition to tracking local file access. For example, "spreadsheets.google.com" doesn't tell me which spreadsheets I was accessing. Same applies to wiki pages I edit. I also wonder if the URL in some cases might also somehow reveal (or hint at) whether I was reading or editing the page (so I might use different tags to differentiate them).
-
Inappropriate?I would bow down and hand over my first born for this feature. It is by far the most important feature for my work... it would also be super useful for putting together time sheets.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Of course, there should be a selection for every app (or by pattern), if I want just the app name, just the document or both.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?+1 for this. i used Slife for a while - even contributed some AS code for it to do this in Aquamacs - but Slife was a horrid RAM hog. if you can do this and not suck, you will be my gods.
i can easily end up with a day that is tagged "sysadmin" because i've worked in console for three clients. each terminal window has a titlebar which i could match against to know who was what, but knowing that i was using "terminal" is no real value. (i'm sure others have the same - "photoshop" or "neooffice".)
I’m hopeful

Sooo, is this feature in now? I can't seem to find it, and RescueTime is quite useless for me if I only see "Visual Studio" without any indication on what project I have been working on. -
Tragically, this got delayed-- we've been barraged by by users who are signing up (who don't seem to think we're ENTIRELY useless... :-) ), so we've been focusing on scaling. This is high on our list, though-- so stay tuned. -
Inappropriate?I've only just started using RescueTime, and it's very cool - I'll keep using it. I'm amazed that an app like this is free. It will be made exponentially cooler when I can track individual docs. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?Rescue Time is a useful app alright, but it is quite a limitation to not recall the title of the application (thus store the document I was working on).
This is the same request for http://getsatisfaction.com/rescuetime... (presently 26 votes) and http://getsatisfaction.com/rescuetime... (17 votes).
Also, there's no timeline, so I can't scroll through the day. Timesnapper was much more useful in that regard, but I can't use it as there's no Mac version.

Inappropriate?http://www.productiveflourishing.com/... has a useful analysis of RescueTime, including mentioning some things the team could do to improve it. http://jawmaster.wordpress.com/2008/0... underlines some other limitations.
I look forward to RescueTime being a tracker as well as a productivity saver.
I'll leave it running, but its insufficient in itself to not need something else to capture the documents in use.
Slife labs have an application. I'll try that next.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?it's been a while since this post was first made and I don't see it resolved any time soon.
Despite being the top requested feature, and several other popular posts are all asking for the same thing under different headings (http://tinyurl.com/9r5kkn , http://tinyurl.com/9e9nmr), the feature has not developed for 10 months now. Yet it does not appear so difficult or farfetched, and other time.mgt/productivity companies such as Slife, FruitfultTme are offering it.
It's true I have taken a liking to the aesthetics of the site and for now that is the main reason I'm still using it but if scaling has become more important to you than a feature explicitly requested by many of your customers, I would be gladly to relieve you of the extra traffic and work.

I'm finding myself looking at RT site less and less often. -
Heya Zilch. We really appreciate that a lot of folks passionately want this. We'd hoped to have it available sooner than this. Here are a couple of reasons why it's taken 10 months.
- We've grown a lot faster than we thought. There are technicl growing pains here that I don't need to get into-- but were very time consuming.
- We are sending/storing a tremendous amount of data. By storing entities for each document you visit, we are increasing that dramatically. Scaling is a challenge here.
- We were working on a business offering. There's a lot involved here on the technical side and there's work on the sales/marketing front, too. We aren't a big enough company to have dedicated sales/marketing folks. The business offering is critical to our survival as a company, so it took priority.
- Related-- businesses don't necessarily want the same things as you do. Sometimes we have to prioritize business features over individual features (again, survival!).
- We raised money during that 10 months (again, survival!) and did a bit of hiring recently as a result. Hiring (for a 3 person company) is a time consuming process. We're now 5 people with no hiring and no fundraising in the near future... Which means we can start moving forward a lot faster than we have, featurewise.
- Our data collector app required some pretty dramatic re-architecting to allow for optional collection of document name/path (we collect window title now, but that doesn't consistently provide the info that we need).
Anyhoo, we hope to have this feature (and a few more) out for you very soon. Just about everyone working at RescueTime took dramatic pay cuts to do what we're doing (we worked about 6 months without single dollar), so unhappy users really stings for us. -
Inappropriate? We recently released the ability to capture the document level for a number of applications. This feature is available for the premium RescueTime packages (Solo Pro, Empower, etc).

Inappropriate?I'd be excited if I saw some other Adobe programs on this list. There has to be some other graphic designers and web maniacs trying this out.
I’m waiting...
