Direct Message Failure

I'm trying to reply to a direct message through twhirl. When I try to send the message I get an error querying whether I'm subscribed to the person to whom I'm replying. I can reply without a problem from the Twitter web site?

Is this a problem with twhirl, or is this related to the ongoing Twitter problems?
