Hard to keep members busy
I know a few here that have a SocialGo network and we all have the same problem, we have a nice traffic of people always checking in and out but its like there is nothing for the people to do because there is hardly any activity, so my question is what can we do? what feaures do we need to have other then the chat?

I have this question, too!
Tell me when someone answers.
The more people who ask this question, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?I think you have to ask yourself "What is the purpose of my network?"
People will be more active if things they want to do are more readily available. If people are coming to your network to exchange ideas on international distribution of toys, then a chatroom probably wouldn't serve members quite as well as, say, forums. Whereas if you're running a network that works as a help desk, then a chat room might be a good way to give customers on-demand access.
Also, if you're just starting a network, you may have to do a lot of the work to get people off the ground, in my experience, until the community becomes somewhat self-sufficient. -
Hi Aaron M, thanks for the reply. I think the problem is only to get the people started but sometimes my network is working by itself in a smal portion but that doesnt seem enough and i have worked really hard to try to get it to the level where it will work on its own. Maybe i am just impatient, my network is only going on its 3rd month. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, keep at it!
We have been running our primary social network for about a year and a half, now, and it took three to six months before it really solidified as a social network. Keep at it.
The other thing that will really help you is providing fresh content all the time... new blogs, new videos, new topics for discussion. Make sure that you or others who are regulars are purposeful about interacting with everyone that joins your community, making them feel at home. -
Yeah will do! I try to post new content every now and then but kinda running low on content hehe. I am just so afraid that the members will leave because they log in couple of times a day and stay a few minutes and leave!!! So i feel like i am missing something on the network and i have a nice Alexa rank that is raising everyday, wouldnt want that to go away! -
Inappropriate?Maybe try running a poll or something asking what members would like to see on the network.
-
I used to make a Poll once a week showing 1 member with like hot or not questions but i took it out was 2 big and didnt blend well in. But i have high hopes for the facebook connect and the chatroom :D -
Inappropriate?hey its not good for a website the administrator ask their members what they want ,
if you want to have a website with 50 friends of you , yes i agree ask them. but if you want a public serious network you don't ask users, you are administrator , you are sure what the people wants imagine facebook to ask their users what they want :P . S.G. needs multiplayer games , online friends activity , friend chat and latest friend activity.
this is the 4 basic answers that every social network must have today , so the members to stay a lot of hour on line to our websites.
Another great idea is to rate each member profile .
also its better to have to your website 2 great games multi player , from having
200 or 300 games but single player .
I’m kidding

Inappropriate?Yes i do think some of the idea's that ngcking has put are great but some times you have to start the ball rolling.
1/ Make sure your site is on the big search engines.
(Just the big ones becuase the other ones soon follow)
2/ Have a look at the other sites that are the same as yours and see what dose well on them.
(If you what your site to do well there is nothing wrong with a little hard work)
3/ Make sure your networks Title & Description are well thought out.
(This helps you better in the search and makes others spot you out but make sure there to do with your site)
4/Have a domain!
(Domains make you pop out in the search and makes your site look like you have put the effot in to it)
5/ Do a little cheating.
(Now no one likes to be the only one on a site so if you do have a new site make up some fake members (with profile photos) and make some activity)
Follow this and your site should do well =)
(you don't always need fancy apps you have a good site)
I have been running for about six months and i have over 4k members and my actitity bord only gos up to 30 min max. -
Well i have already covered all of that but not the cheating part hehe -
Inappropriate? This is all really good advice guys! Keep it coming.
Also, check out this article that I read recently, it's particularly interesting and will potentially pertain strongly to your own networks:

Inappropriate?I would love to see the 'activity points' that Ning has, so people get rewarded for being active. That would be really helpful. And also for people to be able to rate images and blog entries and to have the most popular ones displayed somewhere. It would be good if you could set a timer on them to - so it's the favourites for that week or month, not over all.
