Regarding Network Speed
I am realistic about network speed on a shared platform like SocialGo, but I am getting questions from my testers which show a concern about how sluggish the site feels.
One thread: http://calloffate.socialgo.com/forum/...
Some users are getting an abysmal 15-20 second page load time, but even the "it's ok" responses are noting a 5-sec page load, which is still pretty pokey.
A trace route shows that we're jumping the atlantic and connecting to a UK server farm?
So my question really boils down to - are there any plans for a north american-based server farm, and if not, are the current daily average network speeds pretty much what we should expect for performance?
If that is so, then it would be a major strike against SG as a platform for our community, as we would lose a lot of contributors.
This is not an OMG!!!!! complaint, I would just like an honest appraisal of where you stand on the issue of network speed so we know how to proceed.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hey there,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention...sounds odd as we've not had complaints of this nature lately. We'll investigate and keep you updated.
Kind regards,

Inappropriate?Hey there
we're constantly monitoring the page load speeds and did have a high peak at the time the forum thread you mentioned was created.
on monday morning between 3 adn 4, we had a scheduled database backup going on on one of the servers. this backup acidentally started before we cleared a larger temporary table that we use in the database server. the end result was that around this time that particular server was under very heavy load, and slow page times would have been seen by a percentage of our users.
shortly after this was discovered, and the backup restarted, page speeds would have returned to normal. natrually page speeds are affected by all partsof the system, and we are constantly optimising to bring these times down to as low as possible.
as for distance, from the ping times that you have shown in that thread, 110ms is a very good response.
Regards
Niall
