Inappropriate? The downloading thing should still be there, but maybe it's minimized. See if there's something at the bottom of the page you can drag up.
The skreemr search got removed by default. But I believe somebody (geekshadow) is working on an addon to resolve this. -
Inappropriate?Hypem.com changed the way they work with .mp3's and streaming/linking, so that is temporarily gone...
And skreemr has been removed from the search engine list, but fret not, you can add it manually here: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engi... -
temporarily gone? when will it come back? i really miss it!! -
I concur - this feature is something that's really stopping me from moving to Songbird! -
Inappropriate?Any news by now? can we expect for this feature to come back? It was really the unique feature I was initially impressed with, and now it's gone...
I’m anxious

Inappropriate?Hype Machine changed their radio interface, so sadly we can no longer play it. We plan to pull the link from our search box in the next release.

Inappropriate?Am I no longer able to pull music from HypeMachine into the download tab? It's stopped working...

Pulling Music off HypeM.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I just upgraded to 1.1.1 and now when I go to Hype Machine, Songbird does not display a list of tracks available to be played as it used to.

Inappropriate?Hey Leo,
That's correct, and hey, we're not happy about it either. We don't like it when we spend time incorporating cool stuff like Hype Machine or building out neat add-ons like Last.FM only for them to turn around and tell us we have cooties and they don't want to play with us anymore. Them's the breaks.
Have you checked out We Are Hunted or (depending on where you are located) Spotify? They are both pretty cool for discovery.
I’m sad too, but eh, what can you do?

All things considered... Sondbird is really terrific and just about the only alternative to Itunes. Thanks! -
thanks for the links, laura. i'll have a look (i think i've seen this spotify before, i'm curious if it has changed meanwhile) -
Inappropriate?Poopy. It's not that I want to download songs without going to their source blogs, which is what I think they're trying to prevent. I just want some way to control the Hype Machine radio with global hotkeys so I can skip past 95% of the songs which are shit.

Such a good point. That might be really useful for HM to know... -
Inappropriate?start a new question, jason! i would be interested in this kind of integration, too!
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Leo, I don't think this will ever be possible because if Songbird can pull the songs into its interface, then people will be able to download them very easily. Again, assumption being that they want to stop downloading through their site instead of the source.
The only thing I can think to do is find a global hotkey to browser javascript bridge, coupled with some Greasemonkey script-fu to change the songs.
It's a damn shame, because the Hype Machine + Songbird combo was aces and now the HM sucks. Somewhat of a tangent, I would find a "hate" button much more useful on the HM than a "love" button. Instead of a "my loved blogs" or what have you, you could have "blogs I don't hate". Over time, you'd whittle down the music blogosphere to the ones you like while still opening up the possibility to hear stuff from new blogs.

yeah, I'm afraid you're right and I actually meant a kind of integration where you would be able to skip tracks (and also not to interfere with songbird's playing songs). if i really like a song on HM i can get it elsewhere, but it sucks that we cannot control it via our regular play/pause/skip buttons...
isn't there a HM "channel" here on getsatisfaction? -

There sure is: http://getsatisfaction.com/hypemachine -
the reason why Songbird lost Hypem integration in the first place is because they started using flash to play their content - so the only way Songbird could act like a "global hotkey" is if they allowed in in their flash (kinda like how youtube you can use the spacebar to play/pause and forward/back keys to fastworward/rewind and up/down keys for volume). So if they allowed that, then Songbird might be able to due the basic media control functions.. but as long as they keep using flash, Songbird will never have access to the songs to pull up a media playlist - only hypem's own site can do that. -
Inappropriate?Get the Greasfire Addon and then install the following script:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/5...
Downloads possible with the following one:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2...
there you go! :)
But why can't I right click -> Download to Library :/

Oh man, oh man. After almost getting hit by two left-turning cars on the way to the studio today, this is great! A damned fine day it has become! -

Download All Button added :D -
The scrips works great, only a problem. I can't mark the songs with hearts in the hypem page when I'm using it -
Weird... I don't have a problem at all hearting things on Songbird 1.2 build 1146 on XP sp3 or Windows 7. -
Same config. I must sat i'm talking about the last js, the one in pastie.org above my comment, The older (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/5...) works fine, but it hides the hypem bar. The pastie.org one shows the bar, but does not let you mark with the heart. -
Huh! I never noticed that it nuked the bar. I usually heart next to the listing of the song. -
Inappropriate?yes yes yes!
this is great! just kicked HM off my firefox bookmarks list.
back to normal!
I’m so happy
-
Inappropriate?Whoa Tomber, way to come up with a solution. So if a Greasemonkey script can fix the problem, why can't the solution be built into Songbird?
I’m thankful
-
Should be no problem to write an addon - I'm not experienced enough to do this and nobody is willing to write one, so we have to stick to greasemonkey.
I'm trying to find a way for a per item download option with the monkey -
It's some extra mouse work, but you can always just drag the file from the playlist to the downloads tab on the left menu. -
Inappropriate?Quite frankly, I hope they never do build it in.
Direct downloading is a threat to the Hype Machine's relationship with the blogs that make their site possible. If solutions like this get enough attention, I fear they might try and prevent Songbird integration.
