Inappropriate?Hey Marc,
Copy that. I'll voice the need for a blog post at our All Hands today!
I’m thankful for the bump!
-
Inappropriate?Expect a blog update no later than Monday. Between you and me (and the rest of the www ;-) everyone is super slammed around here working on the soon to be released Hendrix which is why it's a little radio silent on the blog right now. Sometimes no news IS good news!
A great way to see what we're working on and when it's slated for is our release pages. Currently we're working on Hendrix.
I’m hoping you feel more in the loop now!
-
I thought as much... Yet wanted to remind you that there is a big intarweb out there waiting for some dirt on what's going on. Also, wanted to show you guys a little attention. :)
I love 'my' Songbird, but it's still teeeerribly slow on 'my' Ubuntu. Thus I'm can hardly wait for some news, or even better a blessed nightly or maybe even a... beta!
Thanks for the quick reply Laura. Very kind. -
Inappropriate?that's understandable ;) also it's good to check developer's personals blogs for more information :)
I’m excited

Inappropriate? If you're a little into technical aspects and points of view, our Roadmap, is a good resource for "news", too!! There you can always follow status changes on the next release.

Inappropriate?Yes - did that. But this is not just about me. You gotta show love to the community-at-large out there. Keep their mouths watering, as it were. Make sure your fanboys are well fed. Help out people who told their boss that there's this great new software that plays the web, makes coffee and eats iTunes for breakfast and the exact feature he needs will be in the next release which comes out - when?
And in this respect nothing works as well as a little 'inside scoop'. A sense of "er, no we haven't died"! Guys, you just released 1.0. And then what - silence?! ;-) Of course you're completely focused on coding and improving all that stuff that just didn't make it into 1.0, but just don't focus too much. You'll still want people to download the next iteration of your opus.
So, I've really pushed my point now :) Anyways I'm sure Hendrix will rock. He was born for that now, wasn't he?
[german accent] peace out! [/german accent]

I’m confident indeed.

Inappropriate?I agree totally with Marc's comment above. According to my google reader there are over 2000 people subscribed to the songbird blog yet it only posts on average 0.5 items per week (and i expect that comes in bursts).
I fortunately read the wiki but i bet not many of those 2000+ people do so they wouldn't know that the roadmap was greatly updated just the other day. A blog post would be nice. As Marc said "You gotta show love to the community-at-large out there. Keep their mouths watering, as it were."
Songbird rocks - let the readers know.

Inappropriate? Thanks for letting us know about the roadmap update, Rob. It looks like they might not have finished it yet since there isn't a lot of information about the latter releases, so maybe they will make a blog post about it when it is completed. And as for the discussion about Songbird news (which is old but still relevant), I would like to hear more from the team as well. I wish they could make a blog post every few weeks or so where they let everyone know what they are working on, what important bugs they are fixing, what GetSatisfaction topics they think are interesting and would like to see more discussion about, things like that. I love the employees who frequently post here, but it can feel like we don't get to interact with the people actually creating the program as much. At least it is because they are so busy coding it.
I really like the about:mozilla newsletter that sends out updates about Mozilla products every few weeks. Maybe the GetSatisfaction community and a few of the employees could work together to produce an update every two weeks or so compiling news about the program's development, new add-ons, and ideas from GetSatisfaction, and send them out to a mailing list or make a blog post about it.

Inappropriate?@ Murphy, I think that's a really great idea.
I've stayed pretty clear of the blog but maybe in addition to my Get Satisfaction and Twitter time I should be relaying updates from the company meeting and other juicy details, like the Kreeger McFlurry count (17 btw) in weekly blog posts...I'll bring it up in our all hands today. Thanks!
I’m thinking I can add another To Do to my plate to keep our community humming along.
-
You'd get serious brain freeze from 17 Mcflurries! But, yes, I massively agree :) It would be really good to know what's going on behind the scenes, build up excitment about releases etc etc -
kay guys, try this on for size: http://blog.songbirdnest.com/2009/04/... -
Wow. Thanks for the blog post. I think the blog is a great way to keep in touch with the community and bring new members into active discussions. This can only be good for Songbird- we (the community) get to know whats being worked on / the latest news, and you (the developers) benefit from an active community suggesting great new ideas, providing support and generally making lots of noise about how great Songbird is all over the internet and between friends too. Lots of respect for the team -
One of the best posts yet! -
Inappropriate?Hehe, I hope we called you out on your shit in a friendly manner. Thanks for putting this together, Laura.
-
Of course you did and it's fun...today's is already underway! :0) -
Inappropriate?Two blog posts! Thanks guyyyysss!
Also - Am I the only one who didn't realise that the release names were alphabetical? I feel really stupid now...
I’m not very bright today!
-
Ugh, now I feel stupid too. You weren't the only one. -
Phew! Any guesses what Q or U will be? haha... -
Queen and U2? Those are all I can think of. :P -
My point exactly! :P -
UB40 perhaps? Although I'm guessing they're not so well known outside of Britain -
Inappropriate?Right! Check this:

I want to know your A-Z of what artists songbird releases should be named after...go go go!!
I’m amused
