Perhaps a little less would be more?
I was so excited when I heard about Songbird and the idea of having an open-source music player, but hot damn, its barely functional! Forget about the add-ons already, that just makes it COMPLETELY unresponsive. It definitely has a lot of potential but should be basic, simple and easy to use before you start heaping on additional features that further stunt it. Thanks for all your hard work!
(using WindowsXP on Intel duocore, 2gigs ram, 500gb memory, all drivers, all programs updated and it takes 3-5 minutes just to open! (and thats with zero add-ons)

Inappropriate?they make the addons optional for a reason, you can make it as custom or basic as you want, and yes there are a lot of bugs, but thats what bugzilla's for. If you fing a bug not listed in bugzilla list it.

Inappropriate?Hey Biff,
3-5 minutes sounds painful and not at all normal...what size library do you have? Have you tried creating a fresh profile or running in safe mode to see if something is corrupted or if you have a rogue add on?

Inappropriate?How is songbird compiled?
Is it compiled / optimized for Pentium-III and above?
Is full optimization turned on(-O2, + some specials, for final releases).
Most of the problem is in the GUI -- not song play or even reading the library...those seem to be ok...but the GUI is sluggish and seems to miss many mouse and key inputs....
I have a Dual-Core-2 @ 3.2GHZ & 4GB (3GB seen by XP) machine with
with 2 15K-RPM SAS drives in a striped RAID 0 -- Graphics card is
Nvidia GTX260 max core (216 core procs w/768MB dedicated Graphics ram).
and SB is sluggish?!
SB also limits itself to 1 CPU...I have 4 so there's an obvious reason right there.
put music on one core, graphics on another , USER interaction (input) on another, and core processing on another...much can be done in parallel)...
