Show song in a polychromatic Moodbar!
Not sure if it is even technically possible but a "mood bar" to display the "mood" of the song would be an incredibly nice eyecandy feature to have. Amarok and a few other programs out there have moodbars for individual songs that are displayed in a polychromatic bar. Obvious parts of the song, such as the chorus or the intro are visually represented on the moodbar by hashes of color lines. This also has the added effect of displaying the intensity of the song as well.

If there ever is a multiple tagging system eventually in Songbird, I think the best way to implement the chromatic color idea would be to let the user associate tags with certain colors, and it will then mix the colors accordingly based on the terms a song is tagged with. For example, you might tell it to associate "folk" with brown, and "energetic" with orange, so a song that has folk and energetic as tags would be highlighted in orangy-brown. I don't know how well it would work in practice, but since it is usually the moods that you would tag songs with and also that you would represent with the color of the song with, it might simplify the process so you don't have to set both qualities for each song. And I really think scrolling through a colored library might make it easier for you to pick music based on what mood you are in.

Inappropriate?I like this idea ! That makes me think of colour player a new concept, yet interesting :

Inappropriate?Okay. I have no idea what michael voong meant by his color player but also I think I did a poor job at explaining this idea. What I meant was that a moodbar feature would be a nice feature to have for songbird. Another player, Amarok, already has a 'moodbar', or graphical representation of the song along a spectrum using colors to represent intensity and rhythm, built in. I don't think this idea, however insanely cool it may be, will get any traction but it was worth a shot suggesting it. Search wikipedia for moodbar and you will clearly see what i meant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moodbar
I’m quixotic

Inappropriate?Nice Idea. But I want more. If I get a moodbar, then I want to be able to have a smart playlist, where I can set a special mood and songbird only shows songs, that fit into that. Like sad, happy, angry, etc.
I'd like that!
But perhaps this is more an Idea for an addon? -
Inappropriate?I don't need this feature... it can be done with an extension and gstreamer.
I’m indifferent

I like it anyway. It's shiny!! -

Inappropriate?I think I'd like an implementation of Amarok 1.4's moodbar. It shows areas of intensity in the music and represents that with a band of varying colors and it's theme-able and I assume custom color associations could be made to match the users preferences. (I wouldn't imagine it would take too much to get this working in songbird; Amarok is cross-platform after all)

And it turns out that Amarok's moodbar uses Gstreamer to do its stuff!
