Many people were hoping for the next best alternative to foobar.
It would be great if we could have a Mini Songbird on the same level as foobar, without all the commercialism.
Does anyone even know what a basic music player is anymore? Sure the general public who's clueless to quality just wants bells and whistles in a half assed player. When the other half simply wants quality without all the BS!
Look at all the sheep that listen to iPods who haven't got a clue what a a codec is, or the likes of FLAC, or what a quality hardware audio player like Cowon is.

If you are an audiophile:
You probably have a computer that has no moving parts because you think the humming of your Hardisc is ruining the sound!
You can`t get that so:
You rent the the royal albert hall with the berlin symphonics to play for you alone (stupid people with a cough)!
You can`t afford that :
You own a High end Player and a LP collection together with Backes and Mueller speakers (cause digital is crap especially those SACDs)!
AND finally !
You pay for your Music!
If you want to support Songbird, you report a problem, ask a question, or share an idea.
But first you look up the meaning of these three words.
And then your contribution will be worth it

Inappropriate?Maybe some people are just underestamating how much work it is to develop software like Songbird... Unless you are paying the salary of all the guys which are developing it you shouldnt argue about any comercialism... Songbird is a great piece of software WHICH IS STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT.. please dont compare it one-to-one to projects which exist several years more... YOU GET IT FOR FREE... And the way its trying to monetize things is definetly a way everybody should be able to live with... At least i can ;-)

Inappropriate?to reply to your idea DasFox, some of the splendor about songbird is the fact that it is a music player and program that can multitask and obtain huge amounts of metadata at one time, while giving a good user experience. The biggest plus from a personal perspective is the fact that its open sorce, so if you dont like it, you can take the source and build a module to make it do as you so choose, but keep it within the limits of its GPL license. Songbird is still massively in development, and has a large timetrack to cover before its hailed as a complete product.
I too am an audiophile, but and audiophile doesn't play music through an all-digital mosfet-based soundcard. A true audiophile has a dedicated setup to hone and control his enviroment and his equipment is usually top-notch. Songbird is a music player, not a FLAC-compatible tool that is made to put emphasis on sound quality and settings. It doesn't have an equalizer yet, so even in that respect its just to play music and enjoy youself, with no strings attached.
The community appreciates you imput, and i'm sure we'll look into the ability to improve your experience with Songbird, but like the saying says " you can't please them all"
