Why can't I monitor the same folder I'm managing my files in?
I don't understand why I can't monitor the molder where my files are automatically managed. When I try it shows me : "Neither the managed library nor the watched folder may contaon each other. Please choose a different folder for one of them."

Inappropriate? It's because the content of the "Managed folder" is totally under the control of Songbird: files you can find in this folder have been created there by Songbird itself, based on the tags they contain.
On the contrary, the "watched" folder contains files that have been put there by the user. Songbird will only read these files when they appear in the watched folder, and place a correctly renamed copy of them in the Managed Folder.
Mixing both folders would end with a contradiction in responsibility between Songbird and the user. Hence trouble (duplicate files...) -
Inappropriate?Yes I understand your way of thinking, but it's not my way of managing files, I think it's kind of odd to have two folder: one watched by songbird with my music is not correctly managed and one with my music correctly managed but not watched.
Moreover I don't want two copy of my music on my hard drive, and if I understand the way it works it is the case now. -
Inappropriate?I still think it is wiser to split responsibilities between the 2 folders. The main reason for me is that files may likely be poured into your watched folder by another program (like a podcast manager or CDRip tool - before SB 1.4). So you would have 2 different tools managing same files in same folders, with different rules and constraints... this is not good and would end with locks or duplicate files, or whatever. Don't you think?
What actually could be requested as an enhancement to the current behavior of Songbird, is an option that would simply delete the original file in the Watched folder after it has been copied by Songbird in the Managed folder. Thus you wouldn't have 2 copies of a same file anymore. This option has to be implemented very carefully though, as no data must be lost in the process.
In the meantime, you may just empty the watched folder from time to time, after making sure that all the watched files have been taken on by Songbird in the Managed folder first.

Inappropriate?Indeed it is wiser to separate. I hope the option of moving the files instead of copying it will be implemented oneday (even if it is quite dangerous).
Thanks for your answers.
I’m thankful
