Integrated "report song" functionality
After reading these three posts:

http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/to...
http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/to...
I started to think it would be nice with an integrated function in Spotify to report songs with problems, like very poor quality or problems with tags. These problems probably wont go away, since its bound to the specific song (not the program) and you add new songs all the time. Of course there will be problems with a song now and then, I think most people understand that and would appreciate a way to report those problems.
It might be easier for you to handle those reports separately as well. They will probably drown in the flood of threads here.

Hi Lars,
Having some sort of reporting function may be quite useful in ensuring high quality music. You're right though that the sheer amount of music means that it's likely there will always be some issues with certain songs but having each and everyone reported here on the forums might put us underwater.

I agree that a song reporting feature would be very useful. The problem is that if the user base grows the number of reports might be a bit overwhelming for someone to manually check each report, especially when it comes to the tags.
I don't know if there might be a licensing issue, but semi-automated correction of tags could be possible by using MusicBrainz. Instead of someone having to look up the correct tags, they could be looked up in their database and the result manually checked if necessary.
Another way to do it is to let people suggest changes in the tags. If multiple people suggest the same change it is probably correct to make the change. This might be abused though, so it would still have to be checked manually somehow.

I agree, this is a good idea.
Maybe there should be similar functions for albums and artists too? Sometimes there are problems that concerns more than just one song. Of course this needs man power to deal with the problems. I think if one is considering to buy the service, the quality and accuracy of the information may be a deal breaker (it is for me currently).

I've also looked for ways to report wrong song titles. You do a search, start to play a song, only to find out it's not that song at all!
For instance: Searching for Swedish Peter Jöback and Norwegian Sissel Kyrjebø "Gå inte förbi" returns this song (spotify:track:6pgaNZfz3PTFimDPt0mor7) which definitely NOT is the song. This one is (spotify:track:3S4WfWrd7EbTQwdOLSJL48).
My suggestion is that you rightclick a song with a problem and maybe tick the right category (wrong title) and send it off. In the comments section of the problem report one can suggest the right title.
Just my two cents ;)
Still love Spotify though!

Why can't we report them directly in the client?
It could be included as premium support with a button in the top right corner which could replace "buy premium".
Already Spotify have premium support, why not include such a function for serious Spotify users to prevent Spam from free users? -

Inappropriate? It's just that someone has to read/check all those reports..
-
Inappropriate?Well, an organized way of reporting a corrupted/wrong/bad quality song is still much better than leaving a report of it here. All feedback is good, and regardless of how long such a list would be, a smart company will file it and work it off when time and money allow for it. Heck, what are interns for?
I’m happy somebody suggested this

There is a topic in the Problems section about all the artists' name disambiguation problems. http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/to... -
Inappropriate?it will atleast make me feel a bit better about it, if i can report a song or album.
(but then how about an album where manny of the songs, but not all of them have issues?)

That would actual be useful if there coming lots of reports
Because if set up correctly the report would come in on the song, so Spotify editors could work down the list of song that have the most reports on them. -
Inappropriate? As a few others have said, this should be extended to allow an error report for an album and artist page aswell.
-
Inappropriate? Here's a suggestion to keep the number of reports down if such a system would be implemented. If someone tries to report a song / album / artist page or whatever, maybe the client could give an indication if someone else already have reported the same problem.
The only difficulty would be getting a system to handle different kind of reports. If someone report an error, and another user sees a different (an additional) error, they should be able to report that too.
Just brainstorming, one solution could be to have categories of errors, but I guess it could be hard to cover everything. Another solution could be that other users can read the error report one user sent in.

Inappropriate? There is a simple solution to this song reporting facility... rather than having a report as such... you have an individual rating report for each song, and the quality of the song can be determined by the over all percentage of the reports.
For example, 100 people vote.... 60% of them report the song is of bad quality. 40% of them say the song is OK. therefore this song will need looking at. plus the rating can also be published to everyone in the search results list. everyone's a winner.
so I suggest that in the results list, you would have a 5 star quality result, along with a 5 star rating result. (Obviously the 5 star rating is something we are not discussing at the moment. :-)

Not all kind of problems could be reported this way. For example I had some problems with an album missing songs...
Also it would be good to be able to specify the problem as it could differ. Sometimes the song might have the wrong name, sometimes the quality of the sound could be bad. -
Inappropriate? You are correct, but it would flag up that there is something wrong with the album, and surely that's enough for spotify personel to look and find whats wrong.
You could include special ratings .. 1 to 5 star or 0 meaning missing/faulty content. when leaving 0 rating for an album/song, it could then ask you for feedback for the offending item(s). this would cut down a lot of reading which has to be done by spotify team.

Inappropriate? This is a good idea. I have posted here before about song tags being incorrect, but no one seems to have adhered to my posts (and they then soon sink into the depths of the forum!)
A "report song" tab could be a better way of dealing with these matters..

Inappropriate?Sorry Andres, your answer doesn't seem to offer any suggestions as to what might be happening with this - it just confirms the problem Lars has raised
Anyone from Spotify got further on actual action with this
I’m dissapointed
-
Inappropriate?Actually it doesn't have to be an integrated functionality. Just a way (separate from this forum) to report faults to a dedicated content team. As you're growing you should be able to afford to have such a team.
Other companies working with digitalized music have them.

Inappropriate?Actually I very rarely have problems with tracks in Spotify, so I think this issue shouldn't be a priority.
-
sure, why not just base ALL Spotify priorities on your personal experiences, ignoring everyone else? sounds like a plan dude. -
It wasn't my priority either, until Spotify FINALLY added an album I've waited for for a long time, and the best song and more on it are corrupted. -
deathwarmedover, you're an idiot. -
I think spotify should decide what the development priorities should be... -
And you norz, are truly a master wordsmith. -
Inappropriate? The same system needs to be used to split up artists that are not the same but share names.
Ex
(The) Prodigy from the UK making techno/electronic music share artistpage with Prodigy, an american rapper.
But how to distinct them? Add countrycode? Add musicstyle? Or do something like wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prodigy)?
I’m confused
1 person thinks

-
They already have a way to do that, they have already split several artist with the same name that were previously on the same page. I think this is one of the most important points, this should absolutely be included in the reporting system. -
Inappropriate?Shakira's She Wolf single appears as an album in the Spanish Spotify library. Will it stay as an album forever? I think there should be a way to report this.
My suggestion is to either make it a built-in feature, or set up a page under spotify.com to send reports to a Spotify employer in charge of fixing this stuff. Better make it happen now than when there's over 2 billion mistakes to fix...
-
Inappropriate?I've encountered several problems on spotify. misspelling of titles, completely wrong titles. and stuff like that.
I think it would be ablolutely wonderful to add a "report-function". Maybe a pre-labeled-report. So that if there's a misspelling spotify technicians'll get lists with only misspelled titles.
and similarly grouping other problems.
It'd be like a report-tab:
Report --> Misspelling / Wrong Name etc ---> Current Track / Current Album etc -->Suggestion --> Confirm --> OK
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? Please make this a feature. It's so annoying finding an album/song and notice that it's info is wrong. I haven't come across any corrupted songs and only occasionally seen songs with wrong tags, but a lot of albums have wrong years on them.
Most recent case was today. This album by Tasavallan Presidentti: spotify:album:4gPvnjB8vV5muFkMETGljj
The album came out in 1971 and not 2005. Also, it's name should be "Tasavallan Presidentti II"
1 person thinks

The CD version came out in 1971 ? Please, they only display encoded CD records.
But I agree with the report feature -
No, of course the CD didn't come out in 1971, but thats not what i said. The album was originally released in 1971 probably as an LP, and that's what it should say on Spotify.
Are you serious about them only displaying music that's released on CD's? -
Inappropriate?Excellent idea. This is one of the most pressing needs today.
Look at http://open.spotify.com/artist/3EgMK9... for instance. The biography is about the Japanese band Boris, but all the albums are either German technopop or Russian crooner music.
There are many other (though none as extreme as is the case with Boris) examples, for instance Aphex Twin and The Ocean. -
>There are many other (though none as extreme as is the case with Boris)
That's a bold statement.
Check out Armageddon, the great 70's rockgroup with Keith Relf. The bio is good, but all albums are by some German rapper. -
Inappropriate?We need the feature, badly!
-
agree :)
