I use Nod32 antivirus version 3.0.642 and ekrn use 88 %-99% cpu during counter spy v3 scan .
for using scan i must deactivate active protection (counterpsy) in other case ekrn use 100 % cpu any time ....
what can i do i have licence for nod32 for more year and i don't want change antivrus application now ...

Inappropriate?Did you turn off On Access protection in CounterSpy? Under Settings/Active Protection, then disable "Check files when they are opened or copied". If the problem still persists after this change, you will need to turn the Active Protection off in CounterSpy in order run with NOD32. However, we will continue to research the matter.
-
Yes i try with " disable "check files when they are opened or copied" Cpu load are not impacted.!! I turn off active couterpsy protection. but is not enough when i scan whith counter spy ekrn are not happy and use 80% off cpu ...
In fact my trouble isn't solved ...
thnk's in advance for any ideas to solve it. -
Inappropriate?Ok, try turning off the rootkit protection in the scan options.
-
I do that and ekn.exe (nod32 scan processs) continue (arround 80 % cpu) -
yes that's true 100% with active conterspy protection on
80% if CS Active protection off and counterspy is doing a deep scanning. -
Inappropriate?Sorry to keep asking questions, but something is not clear -- is ekn.exe hitting 100% cpu when you run a scan with CounterSpy and CounterSpy's Active Protectio0n enabled, but only 80% when Active Protection isn't enabled?
And this is only happening during an scan, correct? -
Oups i comment last message for this one -
Inappropriate? In that case, I'm not sure there is much we can do right now, although we will certainly research NOD32 with CounterSpy. All CounterSpy is doing is executing a scan, and NOD32 is then looking at every file that we are looking at, which is causing NOD's CPU usage to go very high. Why you had a better experience under CounterSpy 2 is anyone's guess at this point.
If you want to upgrade to VIPRE, I'd be happy to give you a complimentary upgrade along with an extra year to move from NOD, if it makes things easier. -
Thank's is a very smart commercial proposal .... But vipre seems very new product, can i found any independent review on net ?? I'm intrested by your proposal in this case. -
Inappropriate?Yes, it's a new program. There are reviews at our site:
http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-H...
I don't want to push you, however. If you'd rather run NOD32 for now, that's fine. What I would recommend is turning off NOD32's Active Protection during the CounterSpy scan. -
It's so late in france ... I think about your proposal in frensh "la nuit porte conseil" (something like night is good advisor) and come back tomorrow evening see you soon patrice -
Inappropriate?Well, you can email me offline at alex(at)sunbeltsoftware.com with whatever you decide.
Bon nuit. -

One year subscription on Vipre in substitution of nod32 is the proposal
Ok I accept your proposal, My Pc is to old for using two antiviral+antispy

Inappropriate?CounterSpy v3.1.1590.1 and NOD32 Antivirus v3.0.672.0 Compatibility Problem.
When running I click on the CounterSpy icon in my system tray, it takes close to 1 minute for CounterSpy settings panel to launch from behind the splash screen. I also noted that the History Files Cleaner section does not work (CounterSpy not responding), when NOD is completely disabled, CounterSpy lauches just fine and the History Files Cleaner tool cleans promptly. I have played with turning off active protection completely and also turned off various features in NOD such as detection of potentially unwanted programs etc. Nothing seems to satisfy CounterSpy except a complete NOD32 disable. Really would like to use CounterSpy for spyware/malware protection and NOD32 for my main virus scanner. PLEASE HELP !
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Mike, I'm not sure there is a solution at this point which will allow NOD's real time protection to run alongside CounterSpy's real time protection. NOD has a very aggressive kernel driver and making the two real-time protection systems co-exist will take some research. I will look into this.
Pigpat, I didn't get your email -- please resend it to alex(at)sunbeltsoftware.com -
Inappropriate?I use NOD version 3 and found it best to turn of Scan on File open in the Real-time file system protection setup. This is what causes a scan on every file access and high CPU. You still have scan on File Creation and File Execution which should be enough to keep you protected.
-
I try them thank's but in fact when I have some times I go to vipre -
Inappropriate?Hi Darren,
Thank you for your post. You are correct that this will help. What happens when this feature is turned on, is that CounterSpy's scan engine and Nod32 will both be trying to scan the file causing the CPU to spike. -
Inappropriate?Sorry Darren and Mike Williams, this workaround doesn't solve the problem on my computer, which is very similar to plgpat's. Like Mike says, the only thing that works is disabling antivirus and antispyware protection on NOD32 which is annoying. Please, find a solution as both programs are great security applications and I want to use them together!
Thank you. -
Well, I don't know then. For me they have been running together fine since I upgraded to CounterSpy v3 two weeks ago. I also updated my Eset to latest build 3.0.672 (I had 3.0.669 before).
Two things to check:
- disable "Check files when they are opened or copied" in CounterSpy
- NOD32 turn of Scan on File open in the Real-time file system protection setup.
CounterSpy Scans work fine:
Both Quick Scan and Deep Scan work well. ekrn.exe mainly used up to 40% CPU during the initial startup of the scan with occasional small CPU spikes during scan. You may have scan appear stuck scanning System Volume but briefly disabling Eset and straight away enabling it gets through it, but my scheduled full scan last Sunday completed on it's own. Scheduled Quick scans run without me even noticing.
A full scan with Eset turned off wasn't that much quicker, so for me at least, turning off Scan on File open in Eset helped a lot.
Other things:
It does take one minute to open CounterSpy. It also does take longer with History Cleaner (even shows not responding for two minutes but when Eset ekrn.exe cpu use goes back down,it always works). So with these ones just a little patience. I can live with these and the PC Explorers being a bit slower, it's the scanning I mainly care about.
I could tune Eset further but apart from the File open real-time setting I prefer keeping my protection optimal.
I am happy with them both running together now. (Main problem apart from this one I had to solve was getting CounterSpy working with Comodo firewall which was disabling CounterSpy at the end of scanning! - again, it's all about compromise and what you can live with) -
Darren, of course I have the latest versions of CS V3 and NOD32, and set the two things you mentioned above. I’ve noticed no significant improvement in either CS “deep scan” or CS and Windows startup, which are all very slow. No wonder, as long as NOD32’ “ekrn.exe” eats 35-40% out of CPU. With NOD32 disabled CS is flying!
I think one doesn’t pay for a product to make compromises. When I chose to purchase CS a few months ago, I searched the net for eventual issues with NOD32 and I didn’t find any, but now... it’s very frustrating.
Using CS as a stand-alone (like CS team tries to suggest) is ridiculous, any professional antispyware tool should live well alongside an antivirus and a firewall program.
So, Darren, let’s not make illusions to CS developers that all is well and let’s hope they will find solutions to these issues in a future upgrade. Until then, I will disable “SBAMSvc” service in Administrative Tools to receive a red icon reminding me CS is not functional. -
Inappropriate?Same issue here with v3 and Nod32 - however, I cannot open CS to adjust any parameters - it hangs at the splash screen even when CS disabled and no scan running. Even with nod32 disabled, I cannot open CS gui to get at the parameters.
-
Just tried the latest (today's) update and still the same issue... -
Inappropriate?Hi Qwp99,
If you are unable to open CounterSpy, try doing a uninstall reinstall. Disable NOD32 while doing the reinstall, to make sure that it doesn't block or corrupt any of the files.
After reinstalling, remember to run only one of the active protections to avoid a conflict.
Here is a direct link for CounterSpy 3.1

Mike - even with NOD32 and Comodo disabled, and then CS reinstalled and launched, I still can't get passed the CS splash screen - even after 8 minutes of waiting. -
There is definitely something wrong then. I think it would be best to contact us here in support directly. We can help you get it working.

Inappropriate?Bog -- I do want to mention that by design, it is our intention that CounterSpy and NOD32 co-exist peacefully. Our developers are researching these reports and we do take them seriously.
