Ee -

You will see a blue dot next to the title of your saved search, or inbox when there are new updates. Additionally, if you receive a new DM you'll see a notification on the right hand side.

We have not implemented this for groups but we probably will in the near future. Thanks!

Corinna: what about messages in the @myusername (under Profile in the left bar menu)? Right now, if people who follow me tweet to me or reply - if I don't also follow them, I have no clue that I'm tweeted. Can't there be an indication there (like the blue dot) when there's a new message there?

There should be one there too. We've had some delays fetching that information recently, but you should be seeing it.
