My Commute bag squeaks!
The strap (or its buckles, or where it attaches to the bag) on my 1-month old Commute bag *squeaks* every time I take a step. The happens consistently if I'm walking with my laptop. The sound sometimes goes away if I reattach the strap in the reverse direction (but then I can't use the quick release). When I have the bag across my body over my left shoulder, the squeak seems to originate from behind me to the left.

I have this problem, too!
Tell me when someone solves it.
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?Yeah, squeak happens.
But seriously, the squeak most likely comes from a plastic clip rubbing on a metal ring. If you send it to us we can fix that for you. Go to http://www.timbuk2.com/wordpress_cms/... and fill out the form and send us your bag. We'll make it all better.
I’m a little squeaky myself

this solves the problem

Inappropriate?I am having this too and just came here to look for an answer and found this. Thanks for the reply! - do you need the whole bag or just the strap part?
-
Inappropriate?I struggle with the same issue. The squeak definitely comes from the plastic clip rubbing on the metal D ring. Is there a "home remedy" (WD-40, etc) or is sending in the bag the only recourse? What happens when the bag is sent in?
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?you could probably wrap the ring in gaffers tape.
-
Inappropriate? What about some kind of wax? Candle, skate, surf or otherwise? Also there exist substances for zipper lubrication... For use on Jeep soft tops, for example.
I’m hoping this helps.

Inappropriate?Yup, got the squeak as well :( My previous Timbuk2 did this as well, but not as bad. My new hemp bag is super squeaky.... Will try some electrical tape around the metal d-ring, but for some reason I keep thinking that it comes from where the strap attaches to the clip (the little rotating part)
I’m sad and frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I put some black electrical tape on the metal ring and no more noise, similar to a suggestion someone posted above. Hope this helps!

Inappropriate?I dabbed a tiny amount of plumber's silicone grease on the D-ring. It is colorless, odorless, and waterproof, and comes in small white jars.
I’m squeak free.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem with my Commute bag squeaking after only 1 month of use. It is coming from where the plastic rings and the plastic clips (which allow the strap to freely rotate). The squeaking has gotten worse, now it's starting to make a clicking sound. There is definitely a defect with the strap connection. This is my first Timbuk2 bag and I am happy with the performance of the bag, but very disappointed with the quality of the strap.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem was Quencam and located the squeak to be in the same spot (the part where the plastic rotates). Whenever I have even a semi-heavy load in my bag it will squeak which I find very frustrating. If I send the strap in, will you guys just ship me a new strap with the same design or has the design been fixed so that the strap doesn't just start squeaking after a few months again?
I’m frustrated
-
I have the same problem. It's definately from the rotation point, not where the d-clip meets the metal ring on the bag. -
Inappropriate? It would also be great if the folks at the store in Hayes Valley could solve this problem if you dropped in. They'd never even heard of it. (Maybe have staff read the Get Satisfaction pages, hmm?)
Irked that I need to find a hardware store with plumber's silicone grease to try to solve this myself. Sending in the bag if there's an easier solution is unattractive.
I’m frustrated & squeaky.

I have the cure! Ace Hardware & presumably others sell a little plastic container of silicone plumbers grease. It's cheap and you just need a dab. Here's what it looks like:
http://www.acehardware.com/product/in...
San Franciscans, you can get it at Cole Hardware on 4th Street between Mission & Market.
Timbuk2 store, you need to go spend the under $5 to get one of these little jars - you won't need the 12-pack I linked, just a dab'll do ya. This is such a silly thing to have so many people so irked at you about. -
Inappropriate?Haven't noticed this with my commute. Maybe it would lessen if you roughen up the contact surfaces in the strap hardware, with a file or something.
