Help With Topaz Adjust Crashing CS3
I downloaded the Demo of Topaz Adjust and find that it crashes Photoshop CS3 Quite oftain. I realy like this program and was hoping to replace LucisArt but I find that Its just too much work as when it crashes CS3 it takes all my work with it. I am running on Vista with 3Gig of Ram. I use quite a few other plugins and have never had problems like this.

Okay, we've fixed the problem through a new release. We've also made some additional improvements. Download the latest here:
http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj...
It should now work with 12MP images. We also added a chrominance control in the Noise tab which should do very well. You may also now double click on presets to apply them in addition to clicking "Apply Preset".
Thanks - let me know if there's still any issues.

Inappropriate? The problem seems to happen with processing larger size images like 12MP images from my D300. It works fine with 10MP images. USing a 12MP file I can consistantly crash the program.
-
Inappropriate?Hi,
Do you have v2.1 or v2.0? Adjust v2.0 had some stability issues related to larger files. we've fixed that in 2.1, which we released a few days ago.
Thanks,
Eric -
Inappropriate? If you do have v2.1 and it still doesn't work, try this:
Go to Edit->Preferences and click on Performance. Set the maximum memory usage down to about 500MB, which leaves more to use for Topaz Adjust.
This should help.
-
Inappropriate?I downloaded it from your site. It said V2.1 Keep in mind that in only crashes when I use 12MP images. Seems to work on my 10MP images.
I was starting to give your product a lot of press on flickr. Especially since LucisArt is not longer available. I was doing versions of all my LucisArt stuff with your plug-in until I ran into problems.
I think you could corner the market in this area if you can get the thing stabilized.

Inappropriate? We've been looking over this problem today and we've reproduced it. We're now working on fixing these stability issues caused by large images. However, it might take a while.
The problem is primarily caused due to memory issues. So, in the meantime, have you tried lowering the maximum memory usage of Photoshop? This'll give Topaz Adjust more memory to operate on, and might offer a temporary alternative. Also, try to load larger images one at a time in Photoshop.
Nice gallery by the way - I'm interested in seeing how the Adjust photos turn out. -
Inappropriate?Setting memory to 500MB did not help. The program is just plain flakey when dealing with 12MP images. One minute it will other times it will report a memory error when pleny of memory is available. I have had it totaly mess up my color settings and turn the image purple.
I suspect you have some sort of memory leak. I am running CS3 on Vista Buis (32-bit) with 4Gig (3Gig Availble)
I have used your other plugins quite abit and they dont have this problem. -
Inappropriate?I see. I've relayed the information to Albert, and we'll be working on this over the next couple of days. I'll let you know when we come up with a fix.

I dont have a problem showing other people how to use the tools. I am the ADmin on the "Nikon D300 Tips Techniques and Fun" group and created just to show others how to do cool things. -
Inappropriate?Very nice photos. I had originally assumed that those images in your gallery were done by using Lucis! We didn't really mean for this plug-in to be another LucisArt - it's focused on exposure, detail, and color adjustment for correction and creative effects in images. But apparently in the right hands it can be much more, as you've demonstrated.
We'll be working on the fix to the problem, and I'll let you know.

Inappropriate? Here is the scoop and you guys could really benefit from this. LucisArt gives a really cool effect that can be duplicated in Photoshop with effort. The LucisArt plug-in makes it much easer and you don’t need as much Photoshop experience. The problem is that the company pulled LucisArt so there is no where to purchase it anymore. They care coming out with a more advance version with sliders and that will work in 16-bit mode. (Remind you of anything) They are pricing themselves out of the public market cause they are going to sell it for $550.
I get lots of emails on how I create my effects. So I know there is a general market for a low end set of controls. What makes yours so cool is that I can save my presets. I already have several.
BTW I just uploaded this one. It was done with Adjust

One nice thing about your product is that it can really help enhance your photos without the treated look. It’s like a all in one tool. -

Inappropriate? This is happening to me too. I use a 1Ds MkIII so my images are 21MP. It seems to work OK if you don't zoom out.
As soon as you zoom out... even once, it crashes. It's a pity because it seems like really good software adn I actually like the results you get... when it works.
I'm using a MAC -
Inappropriate? We are working on the slow preview issues and plan to release an update by the end of the month. Thanks for reporting this problem. I have added to the bug list that need to be fixed.
Best regards,

Inappropriate?Topaz Adjust also crashes Photoshop CS3 on my Mac. Every time I try to open a new image after using the plugin the application crashes. The software is not stable at this time.
-
Inappropriate? What is the image size? We know zooming in out too much on large image has issues. But the problem you talked about is something new. We will look into it.
-
Inappropriate? The image size from a 1Ds MkIII is 5616 x 3744 pixels. The program works almost all the time if I don't zoom out (click the '-' key). However, on an image this large it's almost impossible to see what the filter will produce without zooming out.
Can't you let the filter create a preview on a smaller version of this to give you an idea, and only when you click OK, switch over and use the larger image? This would help speed and reliability. If you get the algorithms pretty close the preview on a smaller image should eb fairly close without being exact. -
Inappropriate?Dean,
We're working on implementing that idea, and it will be included in the next Topaz Adjust update (free for all current users). In the meantime you could try creating a smaller JPEG image as a preview and using it to test the settings. After applying it to the smaller JPEG, the settings will then be saved so you can apply it immediately to the original version.
Depending on your computer you could also try decreasing the maximum memory (RAM) usage in Photoshop's preferences. After you restart Photoshop try the "-" button again and it may work.
Thanks,
Eric

Inappropriate?I recently bought Topaz Adjust. Last night I was working on a photo (I have 2 GB of RAM on my computer and plenty of space). The processing was very slow but worked eventually. Immediately afterwards, however, I lost the capability to "Save As" in CS3 and CS3 froze up. Now, every time I select "Save As," CS3 freezes, on *every photo*, including those that have not been processed with Topaz Ajust. Help!
P.S.: I did install the fix mentioned above. No change.
P.P.S.: The size of the image that caused the problems is 8MB. -
Inappropriate?I tried doing the effect on a smaller image and reproducing the effect on the full with the same settings. However, it doesn't work well.
On the smaller image I get the effect I want, and when I apply the same settings on the larger image the effect isn't the same. Because of the dreater detail the effect is much more subdued, and doesn't have exactly the same result.
That's why in our new version you will have to take into account the fact that the image preview on a smaller image will be different on a larger file.
Thanks for the try though :)
I’m happy the help is there
-
Inappropriate?I found the solution to my "Save As" problem. I'm thinking the issue was triggered by Topaz Adjust, but thankfully it can be resolved by hitting ESC after selecting "Save As" in CS3. So if anyone else comes across this problem after using Topaz Adjust, consult this page: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05...
Yikes, this was driving me crazy. Cool plug-in though. Keep it up. -
Inappropriate? So what do you do with this is your minimum file is 24 mb like I use at 12x8 @ 300
or do I just forget it and return to other programs??
Thanks
Ron -
Inappropriate?Ron:
The maximum image size that Topaz Adjust will currently handle is 24 megapixels. 12x8 at 300dpi should be fine.
If you're using the Mac version, look for the update coming in a few days. (Windows update is already out.) It makes the previews much faster and improves the overall stability of the filter.
Thanks!

No need to mess with Photoshop RAM setting anymore. We have tested on 25MP image without any problem. Please let us know if this update works.
