"scheduling" live events
I'm a new user. We air all of our programming off the media server with the exception of Live Meetings. I would like to include live events in our schedule. How do I do this?
Thank you.

Inappropriate?Brian,
Simple!!! Although there may be several methods to do this, here's what I do:
Build a show record for the LIVE meeting, just like any other show record. However, you should have a "Format" set up for your live feed, such as "Studio", or whatever name you use. The "Primitive Format" should be set to "Live". When you build the show, make sure the length is at least the same length as your "Interstital" setting, but not shorter.
When you schedule the show, it will show up as any other show.
Now, there's one more step. You will need to make a few manual adjustments to your Event Table before you "Send" it, otherwise, the router will switch at the beginning of the meeting, and you won't be a happy boy.
First, in "Location Settings/Autopilot", make sure the checkbox for "Send Events to the Hardware" is UNchecked, and when you generate a the event table, make sure the same box remains UNchecked. That will allow you to edit the Event Table before you send it. After you run "Send Autopilot", click on "Event Table", and look for the two lines generated for each LIVE event. For each line, click on the "Date/time" field to get into the event record, and change "Input" to "No Switch" and "Output" to "No Output", and click "Save". make sure to do this for both lines of each LIVE event. This will prevent the router from switching, and leave your show on the schedule.
After making the changes, scroll to the bottom of the Event Table and click "Send".

Inappropriate?Thanks for the suggestion John.
I hope there is an easier way because we have several of these meetings each month. And I actually would like the channel to switch to our live feed at the scheduled time. What I'm trying to achieve (easily) is schedule live events that will trigger our air signal to go to our live switcher at correct time. I know we can do this manually but I'd like the live event to show up on our X-list and our web schedule without having to hack into those. -
Inappropriate?Brian,
Getting into the meeting, IF it starts on time, isn't the issue, it's getting out of the meeting. How can you schedule that, when you have no idea how long the meeting is?
Unless someone else has a better procedure......

Inappropriate?I actually left out part of the equation to calculate the length of the show record, referred to in the sentence with "Interstitial Length".
The length of the show must be equal to or greater than the "Interstitial Length" + the length of your "Repeat" bulletin.

This is no problem. The key is formats and overrides.
Create a show with the live format. The format will be called "Studio Feed" or whatever. In "Location Setup: I/O: Devices", you'll set up your feed to use this format. When you schedule a show that uses this format, Cablecast will automatically route the show to that input on the routing switcher.
After the show has begun, you can choose to over ride the routing switcher. This tells Cablecast to stop switching on your channel, but to continue automating everything else. Turn on over ride in the "Autopilot: Force" menu.
When the meeting is done, click the resume button (which use to be labeled over ride, until you clicked it). This will tell Cablecast to continue operating your channel normally. It will even "execute the last over ridden switch" if you want it to, which hopefully is "Switch to Carousel", unless the meeting went long.
BTW: If you have a DSK device, Cablecast will even trigger that to advertise that you're joining a show in progress and when it will repeat.
Does this help?

Inappropriate? Thanks, Andrew. That procedure will work well, as long as the operator selects "Override" before the Interrupt slide comes up.
I never knew that was there!!!!!

Inappropriate? Thanks for all in the information. I understand about the meeting length issue and how to avoid being cut off at the end.
One last question, I did create a show and set the type to our Switcher. However when I went to send autopilot, it gave me an this error message....
"The send failed. Could not find a playback device for <show ID> at <Date/time><channel>. Events will not be created for this run."
I checked the Locations Settings>Formats and made sure the Primitive Format is Live. -
Inappropriate?I think that what you are missing is a device that is using your "Switcher" format. Again, in "Location Settings: IO: Devices" you need to set up a device that is using the input of your routing switcher that is connected to the input that you need. You may call this "Switcher" or "Studio" or "Feed from Edit Bay" or whatever.
Then you need to set the format of this device to your "Switcher" format.
Remember: Cablecast links shows to devices through formats.

Inappropriate? After reading your post again, I checked this and everything looked ok. I sent autopilot again without getting the error. The event is about to start so we'll see how it goes. Again, thanks for the help.

Inappropriate?Hi Brian,
We get that message every once in a while, and there is a simple workaround: on the show record, in the "reels" box there is the word "media:" and a link next to that. Click the link, and in the popup box, in "preassign device," make sure an actual device is selected, not "auto assign." Click save in the popup box, then save in the show record. I have found that sometimes after sending autopilot, when this field is set to "auto assign" that the system can't find an appropriate device. So I usually just force it to find the device, and then I never get that error message.
Hope that helps! And Andy, I love the "override/resume" feature. That's a feature I had been wishing for!! Thanks for listening to your customers!
